Job#: 3019257Job Description:AWS Solutions Architect (Technical)Position Title:AWS Solutions ArchitectClient:Big Five Canadian BankStart Date:ASAPDuration:12 monthsLocation:Hybrid – 2 days/week onsite in downtown Toronto (subject to increase)Working Hours:37.5 hours/weekRole OverviewWe are seeking a highly technical and experienced AWS Solutions Architect to design, articulate, and deliver enterprise-grade solutions across critical Payments/TPS platforms. This role requires hands‑on architecture expertise, strong AWS knowledge, and the ability to build solutions from scratch, not just document them. The ideal candidate will come from a technical (development) solution architect career path and be able to communicate effectively with executives, leadership, and deep technical teams. Robust storytelling and the ability to explain how solutions are built—including systems involved, integration patterns, and rationale—is critical. This architect will support major programs such as Payments, RIR, Swift, and multi‑year API modernization initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesArchitect, design, and implement scalable, secure, resilient solutions from the ground up—including system flows, integration patterns, and technology choices.Develop and maintain architectural roadmaps aligned with both business and TPS program objectives.Translate business needs into clear architectural narratives, explaining what was built, why, and how.Define and document architectural principles, NFRs, standards, and guidelines.Lead discussions with stakeholders, driving both executive‑level communication and deep technical conversations with engineers and developers.Conduct whiteboarding sessions to articulate architecture decisions, system interactions, and end‑to‑end design.Collaborate across Payments, RIR, Swift, and API modernization teams to ensure system alignment.Provide expert‑level oversight during design, build, deployment, and production support.Assess solution risks, dependencies,



and trade‑offs; recommend scalable alternatives.Participate in system specification reviews and ensure alignment across project teams.Create and manage architecture assets across portfolios (diagrams, decision logs, solution outlines).Support production readiness, resiliency, disaster recovery planning, and operational best practices.Act as a domain expert across cloud, APIs, integration patterns, and AWS reactive system design.Required Qualifications7–10 years of progressive experience in technical roles (Developer → Tech Lead → SA required).Demonstrated ability to build solutions end‑to‑end, with detailed explanation of systems, tools, and implementation.Expertise in architecting REST APIs, event‑driven systems, and integration patterns.Strong understanding of Reactive Architecture, Well‑Architected Frameworks, resiliency patterns, and distributed systems.Hands‑on experience with AWS (Lambda, SQS/SNS, API Gateway, IAM, Step Functions, ECS/EKS).AWS Solutions Architect certification or commitment to completing AWS Reactive Architecture training preferred.Strong knowledge of middleware, CI/CD, containerization, testing, and enterprise data layers.Understanding of DR (Disaster Recovery), high availability, and production‑grade stability patterns.Ability to communicate clearly with executives, senior leadership, and engineering teams, adjusting narrative to audience.Experience with requirements analysis, technology selection, system decomposition, and NFR definition.Excellent presentation and storytelling skills—must be able to articulate architectural decisions cleanly and confidently.Previous experience within Payments, TPS, Banking, or similar enterprise environments is an asset.CompensationRole Type: Current openingLocation: OntarioHourly Range:
