Join the University of Alberta as an Associate University Veterinarian and enhance animal welfare alongside research integrity. This vital in-person role supports animal health within a regulated academic framework. In this position, you will provide expert veterinary care, guidance, and compliance oversight within the Animal Care and Use program.
Collaborating with researchers and facility staff, you will promote ethical practices and ensure that animal models meet organizational and regulatory standards. This role also includes emergency on-call duties. Key Responsibilities:
Conduct regular facility rounds for health assessments
Implement preventive medicine and biosecurity measures
Offer consultation on ethical animal use in research
Develop training with the Institutional Animal User Program
Manage veterinary programs and operational compliance Requirements:
DVM degree with Alberta Veterinary Medical Association licensure
Five years of clinical experience preferred
Familiarity with animal research regulations
Specialized knowledge in laboratory animal medicine desired
Excellent analytical and communication abilities Contribute to groundbreaking research and animal care standards at the University of Alberta.
