Job Description Unit Summary The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is a team-oriented program funded and operated jointly by Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Josephs Hospital. The Program is committed to change and innovation through education service and research to bring the highest quality science into healthcare for the benefit of the community and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of the science.
Position Summary In accordance with the vision mission values and goals of the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) and those of St. Joseph’s Healthcare you will be responsible for performing a variety of Transfusion Medicine related tests and procedures.
Qualifications
Medical Laboratory Technologist Certification (Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences) or equivalent
Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
Recent Transfusion Medicine experience (within the last 2 years) required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Must be able to work in a team setting
Responsibilities The role of the Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) involves the following:
serological testing in Transfusion Medicine
antibody investigation
carrying out quality control and quality assurance in Transfusion Practice
inventory control for blood products
preparation and storage of blood products
appropriate utilization of the Laboratory Information System in Transfusion Medicine
communication with other health care professionals related to Transfusion Medicine practices
other duties as assigned
