EFI Global is a full-service engineering, fire investigation, environmental, health and safety, and specialty consulting services firm serving a variety of industries in both the public and private sectors.Over the last four decades, we have grown from a boutique firm specializing in handling insurance fraud and arson cases and providing expert witness testimony, into a recognized global leader in engineering failure analysis, origin-and-cause investigations, environmental consulting, laboratory testing and specialty consulting.Our forensic investigation, engineering and environmental services teams around the world share a dedication to expertise, quality and demonstrating to customers that caring countsEach of our more than 700 professional engineers, fire investigators, architects and scientists was selected for their technical proficiency, in-depth industry knowledge and commitment to skilled integrity.Together, our diverse backgrounds and collective insights empower clients to make better-informed business decisions.EFI's combination of global solutions and local expertise has earned the firm a reputation for delivering timely responses that consistently meet our clients' expectations—anytime, anywhere.PRIMARY PURPOSETo provide fundamental Engineering principles and methods to provide forensic structural and building damage assessments to determine the origin and cause of failure / damage for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and sites, etc. Further using recognized design principles complete design of structural restoration and repair works including reconstruction design (including building permits) following a fire, and foundation underpinning related to oil spill remediation under a building, snow load and or roof failures, and cost estimations through repair scope development.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIESInspects buildings and sites as prescribed by company policy and industry standardsDocuments existing site conditions using scaled sketches and/or diagrams, measurements, collection of evidence, and photographic documentation, as appropriateUtilizes appropriate engineering survey, monitoring,
and measuring equipmentUtilizes appropriate interview skills and techniques with points of contact and/or interested parties to obtain background / historical informationResearches a variety of technical issues including building codes, standards, technical papers, textbooks, design manuals, handbooks, best practice guides, internet, etc.Analyzes available data, develops conclusions, and drafts technical reportsResponsible for appropriate handling of records of assignments, referrals, follow‐up with Claims Adjusters, interviews with property owners, witnesses, etc.Completes building restoration designs to support application for building permits for building reconstructionActs as a mentor to professional staff in field of expertise overseeing the professional development of professional staff in field of expertisePromotes and provides superior customer service and responsiveness to customer needsCompletes all forensic investigations in a timely mannerProvides written reports that are clear and concise, written in a manner that conforms to EFI Global policies and industry standardsPromotes EFI Global capabilities to expand business opportunities with client companiesSustains current knowledge of approved forensic engineering investigation practicesDevelops and maintains positive relationships with clients, colleagues, subcontractors and prospects.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIESComplies with Company's Safety Programs/Standards Properly utilizes Personal Protection Equipment Exercises appropriate use, care, and maintenance of equipment (company owned or leased)Complies with company standards and best practices regarding the storage of equipmentMeets or exceeds productivity levels and daily time submission as determined by manager.Complies with all Human Resources Policies, Programs, and InitiativesAll other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS Education & LicensingBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university and a Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
in the province of the posted position. Advanced degrees preferred.Experience Ten (10) + years of engineering experience or equivalent combination of experience and education required with some introduction to in the forensic sciences discipline. Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, procedures, general terms, conditions, nomenclature, etc. associated with the insurance industry and assigned area of engineering specialty.Forensic Engineering investigation experience is a plus.Documented experience in structural design of wood, steel and reinforced concrete.Skills & KnowledgeExcellent oral and written communicationPC literate, including Microsoft Office productsAnalytical and interpretive skillStrong organizational skillsExcellent interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently or in a team environmentAbility to meet or exceed Performance CompetenciesWORK ENVIRONMENTTravel, at least, 30-40% of the time. Can be local or across provincial boundaries.
