Within the SCN we care for neonates requiring various types of care including but not limited to respiratory support feeding and development hyperbilirubinemia and neonatal abstinence syndrome.Position SummaryThe Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated health care professional who adheres to and models the Standards and Guidelines of the College of Nurses of Ontario; the SJHH mission visionand values policies and procedures; and applicable specialty standards. The RN provides patient/client-centred and evidence informed care to promote health and assess the need for the provision of care and the treatment of health conditions by supportive preventative therapeutic palliative and rehabilitation means in order to attain or maintain optimal patient/client function.



The RN collaborates with the inter-professional team and assumes a leadership role in the delivering a full range of care and treatment to patient/clients including those with complex needs high acuity and less predictable outcomes.QualificationsCurrent registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario requiredCurrent BCLS/HCP certification requiredRNAO CNA or other professional association membership preferredMinimum of one year recent experience (within last 2 years) in perinatal nursingDemonstrated knowledge skills and judgement required to provide a full range of care and treatment in the clinical area of practice to patients/clients including those with complex needs high acuity and less predictable outcomes requiredDemonstrated ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with patients/clients and families requiredDemonstrated ability to practice collaboratively and communicate clearly with members of the interdisciplinary team to provide care for a full range of patients/clients requiredDemonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work in response to patient/client and unit needsDemonstrated commitment to ongoing learning professional development and continuous quality improvement required.Demonstrated basic skill level with computers MS Word incident reporting systems internet searches data entry and patient information systems requiredDemonstrated knowledge and skill related to crisis intervention and conflict resolution requiredDemonstrated strong leadership problem solving critical thinking team building and interpersonal skills requiredSpecial Care Nursery Level IIb -specific QualificationsRecent (within the last 2 years) Level II or III Neonatal nursing experienceCurrent Neonatal Resuscitation Provider certificationPerinatal and/or Neonatal Nursing certificate from a recognized College program (evidence of completion or in progress)Breastfeeding Certificate from a recognized College program or evidence of other formal breastfeeding educationInternational Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) designation is considered an assetPerinatal Nursing Certification from the Canadian Nurses Association is considered an assetWillingness and ability to cross-train within the Women's and Infants' program citing a secondary area of interestDemonstrated knowledge of neonatal physiology and care of the preterm and/or acutely ill neonateSt. Joseph's Health System (SJHS) and its member organizations are equal prospect employers and strives for equity, inclusiveness, and diversity in all programs, practices, facilities, and people.
