Reporting to the Supervisor of Health Information Records Management (HIRM), Registration, Switchboard and Patient Information (RSPI), this Administrative Support III position is responsible for ensuring immediate access to patient information in order to facilitate healthcare treatment decisions. This position is responsible for interviewing patients and/or their family members in person or by telephone to positively identify patients and obtain their demographic and financial information. This position supports Health Information Records Management and Registration. Following the Provincial Registration Standards and Practices (PRSP), this front-facing position is instrumental in verifying, validating, and accurately entering patient information into Connect Care. The role places a strong emphasis on consistently applying Positive Patient Identification during the registration process to ensure precise record linkage, support the safe delivery of patient care, and mitigate identity theft. Effective communication skills are crucial to provide exceptional customer service to patients, staff, and the general public. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to: Interact with internal and external stakeholders. Collect hospital fees for uninsured, out-of-country services, patient chargeables. Point of sale (POS) collection and cash handling. Answer telephone/switchboard and assist with wayfinding. Train and mentor new employees and students as required. Manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions in a fast paced/high stress environment. Other duties as assigned in Registration Department.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Medical Office Assistant, Unit Clerk, and/or post‑secondary education applicable to the position. One year experience within the last two years in a Registration Department. Sit/stand for prolonged periods with frequent movement including walking, twisting, turning, and bending. Reaching, lifting, and/or carrying (above,



at or below shoulder height) up to a minimum of 50 pounds. Required to withstand highly stressful and emotionally challenging situations (trauma patient registrations). Proficiency in Medical Terminology, typing speed of 40 wpm, phone etiquette, and written and verbal English communication (TESTS ADMINISTERED).

Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in Connect Care, Netcare, Person Directory, EMPI and MS Office (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams). Experience in patient/client scheduling. One year experience within the last two years in a health care medical office setting. Customer service experience. Knowledge of the Release of Information Process. Preference may be considered for students who have successfully completed their practicum within HIRM or RSPI at an AHS facility.
