Child and Family Services (WCFS) provides a comprehensive continuum of child protection and family support services in Winnipeg in accordance with The Child and Family Services Act and The Adoption Act.

Child and Family Services partners with community resources to provide supportive and preventative services to families; provides protection services to children at risk of abuse and neglect; develops and provides basic and specialized placement services to meet the needs of children in care; and provides adoptive and post-adoptive services along with guardianship responsibilities to children, youth and families when reunification is no longer an option.

Reporting to the Unit Supervisor, the Child and Family Services Worker (case manager) is responsible for the full range of statutory child welfare services to families and children. The position establishes and maintains effective working relationships with individuals and families, and service providers often under difficult circumstances. At the full working level (SP4), the successful candidate will perform a range of duties that include: intake, conducting abuse investigations, developing case plans to ensure child safety, coordinating support services, working with collateral community agencies, assisting with after-hour services to children and families.
You will play a key role in the management of protection, voluntary family service and child in care cases. Post secondary degree in social sciences (preferably BSW). Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service ( or by Canadian Association of Social Workers at application)
Ability to identify signs of child abuse and neglect
Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word and Outlook)
Case management experience (including intakes, assessments, service coordination, counselling, and monitoring) in a social service setting, course practicum experience in a social service setting and/or knowledge of case management
Experience working in a child and family services agency or social services agency
Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act
Knowledge and understanding of child development
Ability to read, write and verbally communicate fluently in French.
Must provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search
Must provide a current and satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check
Must provide a current and satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check
Must have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5F Driver’s license and access to a vehicle with the ability to travel on government business within the Province of Manitoba
