What You’ll Do

- Utilizing knowledge of pediatric obesity and human metabolism, conduct nutrition assessment in a multidisciplinary team-oriented model and develops, documents and implements age-appropriate nutrition care plans as outlined by the Generation Health Clinic nutritional protocols. Monitor progress and evaluate and report on results of the plan. Make recommendations for changes or adjustments as required.
- Provide comprehensive nutrition counselling for clients of the Generation Health Clinic. Provide individual and group teaching sessions including comprehensive nutrition, healthy living and self-care education to support patients, parents and caregivers.
- Document nutrition care plan and recommendations at each stage of the nutrition care process according to established guidelines. Complete and maintain appropriate records for activities including workload statistics and patient databases.
- Develop, coordinate, implement and maintain nutrition educational materials for patients (e.g. lesson plans, handouts, slides, worksheets) in consultation with clinicians to support the delivery of the standardized Generation Health Clinic group intervention across all delivery sites. Ensure resources align with group learning objectives, curriculum and current clinical guidelines.
- Maintain and update patient and clinician resource platforms on behalf of delivery sites to ensure accurate, accessible and up to date information for use in patient education and group facilitation.
- Consult and communicate with community-based health professionals, hospital staff or staff from other health agencies to enhance and provide continuity of care for assigned patients.
- As a member of the Generation Health Clinic team, provides input in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nutrition related services, participates on relevant committees and supports the efficient and effective use of resources.
- Identify patient’s needs for services and make appropriate referrals, or develop alternate strategies for patient support, education and follow-up care.
- Assist the coordinator by providing input to program planning and review of treatment protocols and/or interventions for the Generation Health Clinic.
- Prepare and present workshops/in-service instruction, patient education programs and written resources to other health care professionals regarding management of pediatric obesity in outreach education for patients to ensure best practices are implemented for in all settings of care.
- Participate and collaborate on approved program research projects such as surveys and outcome evaluation by providing input into the planning and formulation of the research question, collecting data, integration and interpretation of data and recommending and identifying implications of finding for program delivery.
- Participate in clinic-based quality improvement and risk management initiatives by methods such as collecting data and monitoring variances to expected outcomes. Make recommendations based on documented results and implements approved changes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications What you bring

- Graduation from an academic program in dietetics approved by the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
- Current full registration as a Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC.
- One (1) year recent, related clinical experience in the area of pediatric weight management and counselling; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Successful applicant will be required to complete the training required to become a Generation Health Clinic Weight Management Program provider.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples in social and health contexts, including supported by significant knowledge of Indigenous-specific mandates, including clear understanding of and commitment to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination and embed Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care. Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging,



and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within health care settings. This involves familiarity and understanding Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility recognizing personal biases, institutional barriers, engaging in anti-racism education and training and advocating for systemic change.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Children’s Hospital contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - BC Human Rights Code, BC Anti-racism Act and how they intersect across the health care system.

- Brings an understanding of the Indigenous specific racism and the broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure, and has demonstrated initiatives in breaking down barriers and ensuring a safe environment ensuring a sense of belonging to all and informed by Indigenous Cultural Safety.
- Awareness of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (the Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
