ABOUT THE ROLE
SQM Project Delivery Inc. is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Project Engineer with a background in Electrical Engineering to join our team on a fully seconded basis. The successful candidate will be embedded within our client's operations in the mining industry at their site in Timmins, Ontario, working under a Fly-In / Fly-Out (FIFO) rotation schedule.
In this role, you will support the planning, execution, and commissioning of electrical and multi-discipline engineering projects across an active mining facility. The position demands a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, combined with practical project delivery experience in an industrial or resource-sector environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Engineering & Technical Delivery
- Develop, review, and issue electrical engineering deliverables including single-line diagrams, cable schedules, equipment specifications, protection relay settings, and electrical area classification drawings.
- Provide engineering support for MV/LV electrical systems, motor control centres (MCCs), VFDs, transformers, and switchgear.
- Perform load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination studies using ETAP, SKM, or equivalent software.
- Support development of functional and design specifications for electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Conduct field inspections and technical reviews to verify design conformance and support construction and commissioning activities.
Project Management Support
- Assist the Project Manager in developing and maintaining project schedules, work packages, and progress reports.
- Track engineering deliverables against project timelines, flagging risks and deviations to the team.
- Coordinate with multi-discipline engineering teams (civil, mechanical, process) to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOP/HAZID sessions, constructability reviews, and pre-commissioning walkdowns.
- Maintain engineering change logs and manage document control per project procedures.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for electrical engineering matters with the client's site engineering and operations teams.
- Prepare and present technical reports, progress updates, and engineering recommendations to stakeholders.
- Support procurement activities including vendor technical evaluations, material requisitions, and equipment inspections.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all deliverables comply with CSA C22.1, CSA Z462, IEEE standards, and Ontario ESA requirements.
- Actively participate in site safety programs, JHAs, and safety audits.
- Ensure designs conform to OHSA and Ontario Regulation 854 (Mines).
- Promote a culture of safety leadership and environmental stewardship on site.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering from an accredited Canadian university or equivalent.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive engineering experience in an industrial, mining, oil & gas,
or heavy industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience with electrical design for industrial facilities (power distribution, protection, controls, instrumentation).
- Experience in a project engineering capacity with multi-discipline teams strongly preferred.
- Previous site-based or FIFO experience in mining or the resources sector is an asset.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of CSA C22.1, CSA Z462, IEEE 80, IEEE 242, IEEE 1584, and related standards.
- Proficiency in ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent design tools.
- Familiarity with instrumentation and control systems, SCADA, and PLC/DCS platforms.
- Ability to develop electrical engineering deliverables from concept through to IFC (Issued for Construction).
Certifications & Licensing
- Eligibility for registration with Qualified Engineers Ontario (PEO) required.
- P.Eng. designation (PEO) is a significant asset; Engineers-in-Training (EIT) actively working toward licensure are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Mining safety certifications (e.g., Common Core, Surface Mine Certification) are an asset.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver's licence; ability to travel to Timmins, Ontario on a FIFO rotation.
- Ability to work in an active mining environment including working at heights, underground areas, and industrial settings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear technical documentation.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

WORKING CONDITIONS & FIFO ARRANGEMENT
- Work Arrangement: Fly-In / Fly-Out (FIFO)
- Site Location: Timmins, Ontario — Active Mining Facility
- Rotation Schedule: To be confirmed
- Travel: Flights and ground transportation to/from site provided or reimbursed per SQM policy
- Accommodation: Camp-based accommodation provided on site during rotation
- Employment Basis: Fully seconded to SQM client — candidate remains an SQM employee for all HR, compensation, and benefits matters
