The Transportation Safety

Board of Canada (TSB) is part of the core public service administration named in Schedule IV of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and is also subject to the PSEA. This being said, the TSB is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the King's Privy Council for Canada. The organization aspires to be a contemporary world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety.

The intent of this process is to establish a pool of partially qualified candidates. Similar positions may be staffed through this process with various tenures, language profiles and/or requirements, location, and security requirements. As such, and in accordance with the TSB Code of Values and Ethics, the successful candidate in this selection process cannot directly own an interest (shares or other) in a company involved in the air, marine, rail, or pipeline industry.

Other personal activities relating to these industries may also represent a conflict of interest. Agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions.Agree to respond and travel on short notice during and after normal working hours and on statutory holidays.Agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship, and air.Willingness to undergo TSB required training. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering,



civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Significant* and recent** experience conducting detailed engineering examinations and analysis, interpretation of findings and providing professional engineering expertise in the field of failure analysis of electrical devices used in the maritime and/or aviation and/or rail industries and/or automotive industry. Significant* practical experience in performing laboratory tests and documenting findings for the analysis of electronic devices for the transportation industry such as maritime or rail instruments, automotive electrical charging systems, airplane avionics or maritime or aviation navigation systems.

Experience writing authoritative professional engineering reports with respect to analysis, results findings and technical issues. *Significant knowledge of the design, function,operation and testing of electronic components such as maritime Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), automotive CAN Bus systems, aviation Electronic Locator Transmitters (ELT), aviation, rail and/or maritime radios, bilge pumps, maritime winches, avionics and annunciator panels.Significant knowledge of the design, function, operation and testing of alternators,



high powered generators and electrical charging systems.Significant knowledge of the use of oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analysers and other laboratory based analog and digital testing devices. Ability to manage multiple projects to meet objectives and tight deadlines.Ability to communicate effectively in writing.Language requirements (essential for the job) Master’s Degree in Electrical/Electronics engineering, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering combined with degree(s) in Electrical Engineering.

Experience performing non destructive testing (NDT) using such methods as X Ray, CT Scan, Ultrasound, Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), Eddy Current, Dye Penetrant.
