Date Issued: August 19, 2026 POSITION Worksite: Cultus Lake Swílhcha Community School Contract Type: Temporary, Part-Time (40%) Assignment Area(s): Elementary School Counsellor Salary Range: $63,347 to $116,190 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement) Effective Date: September 1, 2026 until no later than June 30, 2027 (or return of teacher) Please Note: The assignment within this position in September may not be identical to the assignment in this posted position Deadline for Applications: Thursday, August 27, 2026 – 12:00 pm Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
- Extensive academic training and post graduate coursework in the following areas: students with special needs; assessment/testing theory and practice (Level B); strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services.
- Demonstrated experience and ability in being able to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum-based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods, administration and interpretation of Level B Assessments including the WIAT, PPVT, Key Math and TOWL.
- Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs and learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of IEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
- Master's degree, recognized by the College of Teachers, in counselling psychology or a related discipline with a focus on behaviour disorders and counselling - demonstrated ability to collect behavioural information and performing behavioural screening and/or assessments in order to complete Functional Behavioural Assessments - knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of IEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel - knowledge of, and demonstrated application of strategies to support the goals as outlined in SD 33 Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement - willingness to assist with the leadership of the School Based Team - demonstrated understanding of school timetable for both middle and elementary and ability to extensively utilize online scheduling tools such as MyEd - proven ability to inspire and support confidence and self-worth in adolescents - demonstrated ability to motivate students who are disadvantaged or have dysfunctional behaviour patterns to attend school regularly - demonstrated application and facilitation of small groups to address issues such as anxiety and depression - demonstrated knowledge and ability to support classroom teachers with best practice in SEL - demonstrated ability to be a case manager and positively advocate for students - willingness to work with and support Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) - willingness to work in a team-oriented manner with staff, administration, and parents - demonstrated commitment to professional learning as a counsellor For Further Information Contact: Lisa Wallace, Principal of Cultus Elementary (604) 858-6266
