In other seasons, you will be helping with production or facility maintenance.As a key member of the Heeman’s team, your role as the Tropical Plant Storage Coordinator is essential in contributing to our overall success. In this role, you’ll help us achieve our goals of providing exceptional service and ensuring a positive environment and “Happy Place” for all Daymakers & guests.

Wage: $20-$25/hour

Responsibilities

Tasked with caring for all plants overwintered for clients in storage greenhouse, including pruning, scouting, watering, repotting, and treating plants.

Understand plant varieties and care requirements for a range of annual and tropical plants.

Provide customer support for questions or concerns related to tropical plants in storage and general plant questions.

Clean and disinfect greenhouses between crops.

Liaise clients to update them about any arising issues or important updates about plants in storage, including working to find workable solutions.

Organize storage greenhouse to place each plant in the right space to optimize their growth conditions and care, including scanning barcodes on each plant to update the location in our database for smooth; rapid locates for pick-ups in spring.

Act as a part of Production team to maintain a clean growing environment across all greenhouse spaces, including scouting and treating issues arising in all plant crops.





Assist with other greenhouse departments including production, facilities & maintenance.

Establish a safe work setting adhering to company policies and guidelines.

Contribute to the overall success of Heeman’s; oversee/support other relevant projects.

Exhibit a positive attitude and excellent work habits.

Back up Receiver as a secondary forklift operator to unload deliveries.

Work in compliance with all human resources, operational (SOP) and Food, Health & Safety policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Personal Attributes

Excellent customer service skills

Open communication style

Solid understanding of mathematics for calculations to accurately mix crop protectants

Capable of following direction and working independently

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Excellent time management skills and ability to manage frequent interruptions

Adaptability to a continuously changing work environment

Transportation plan; Heeman’s is not located on a bus route

Education, Experience & Language

Grower Pesticide License (must receive within two weeks of hiring)

Ability to operate a forklift an asset (training would be provided if not yet a skill in successful candidate)

Passion for the industry, sales, and guest service

Horticulture, agriculture, or greenhouse work experience is required.





High school diploma, GED or equivalent

Prior retail, agriculture or greenhouse work experience is considered an asset

Language: advanced English (written and oral)

Availability

Availability to work before and after regular hours and during all hours of operation (including evenings and weekends)

Availability to work up to 6 days per week

Flexibility to accommodate scheduling changes

Open availability for May to June, September, October

Transportation plan: Heeman’s is not located on a bus route

As a retail greenhouse associate, you’ll need to be capable of performing in this kind of environment and you’ll spend most of your time on the sales floor helping guests, sometimes standing for prolonged periods, maybe even helping a guest with heavier items (that can weigh up to 50lbs).
