Position Overview We are looking for a reliable, hard-working, and detail-oriented Kitchen Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with our lead chef to assist with food prep, batch assembly for our retail product lines, catering order prep, and maintaining a clean, sanitary kitchen environment. Key Responsibilities Food Prep & Portioning: Wash, peel, chop, and portion fresh vegetables, herbs, grains, and legumes for catering menus and product lines. Assembly & Packaging: Assist in measuring, mixing, and packaging dry soup products according to precise standardized recipes and quality controls. Assist in meal portioning and plating Sanitation & Food Safety: Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness. Wash dishes, pots, pans, and equipment; sanitize workstations, counters, and food prep areas. Inventory & Storage: Assist with receiving, organizing, and properly storing raw ingredients and packaging materials following FIFO (First-In, First-Out) standards. General Kitchen Support: Assist the head chef with daily kitchen setup,
catering packing, and breakdown operations. Qualifications & Requirements Experience: Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, catering, or food manufacturing environment is preferred. Food Safety Certification: Valid York Region / Ontario Food Handler Certificate (or willing to obtain upon hire). Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, perform repetitive hand motions, and safely lift up to 40–50 lbs (bags of grains, produce boxes, supplies). Skills: Strong knife skills, attention to detail, basic math (for measuring ingredients), and efficient time management. Reliability: Punctual, dependable, and able to work independently as well as part of a small, focused team. Work Environment & Hours Operational hours are primary day shifts during weekdays, with occasional weekend or early morning availability required depending on catering schedules.
