ROLE

Reporting to the Director, Patient Care, the Manager, Patient Care is responsible for the leadership, management, and operational oversight of the department, program, or service area(s) assigned to them. The specific portfolio assigned to the Manager may change from time to time in response to organizational needs and priorities. The Manager is accountable for the effective functioning, performance, and delivery of services within their assigned area, including clinical and non-clinical patient care functions.

The Manager provides operational leadership to facilitate and coordinate workflow within their assigned area and across other patient care services and external partners.

Responsibilities include coordinating staffing levels and resources, reviewing workload measurement and performance trends, conducting quality audits, evaluating service delivery, and assessing and supporting staff development. Where the assigned portfolio includes patient flow functions, the Manager provides leadership and oversight of activities that support the coordination and movement of patients through the Hospital, which may include Patient Flow Navigators, Scheduling, Bed Allocation, and related patient flow services.

The Manager fosters positive employee relations through knowledge and application of collective agreements and corporate and departmental policies and procedures. They provide significant input into departmental or service area budget preparation, monitor expenditures, provide rationale for variances, and develop plans to address identified variances. The Manager builds and maintains robust relationships with stakeholders across organizational, provincial, regional, district, and community levels.

As a dynamic leader, the Manager demonstrates creativity, flexibility, and innovation to build effective teams and service environments where the voices of patients and staff inform and co-create the delivery of exceptional patient care and services. The Manager is responsible for advancing the corporate priorities of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA),



fulfilling the responsibilities outlined within the HPHA Leadership Accountability framework, and fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

- Current certificate of registration in good standing from a college recognized under the Regulated Health Professionals Act required
- Undergraduate degree in a health-related profession required

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)
- Significant recent management or supervisory experience required
- 7-10 years experience working in a hospital and/or community setting
- Demonstrated exceptional leadership and team building skills.
- Proven management skills including financial, human resources, quality improvement, change management, evaluation and planning, and utilization management.
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership and operational oversight across a range of assigned patient care departments, programs, and service areas, including clinical and non-clinical functions.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing organizational priorities and assume leadership responsibility for different departments, programs, or service portfolios as assigned.
- Well-developed mutual gain negotiation and conflict management/resolution skills.
- Demonstrated analytical skills necessary to gather, interpret, and apply qualitative and quantitative data.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and effectively manage multiple operational priorities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated planning, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize a diverse range of technology and information systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient and staff safety and an exemplary patient/customer experience.
- Well-developed computer skills, including knowledge of Meditech and Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of clinical, operational, and/or patient flow best practices relevant to the assigned department, program, or service area, with specialized knowledge appropriate to the assigned portfolio.

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION
- Master’s Degree in a Management, Administration or a related program;
- Certificate in Healthcare Leadership
