Role Description The Addiction Counsellor/Worker is a part-time, on-site role based at Westover Treatment Centre in Chatham-Kent, ON. The person in this role may provide individual and group counselling to clients experiencing substance use and related mental health challenges, using established therapeutic models and abstinence-based approaches as appropriate to the program. Daily responsibilities include maintaining accurate case notes, and collaborating with other team members to coordinate client care.

The Addiction

Counsellor/Worker also facilitates psychoeducational groups, supports clients in developing coping skills and relapse prevention strategies. Additional duties may include liaising with community resources, contributing to program development, and ensuring adherence to organizational policies and ethical standards.





Qualifications

- Demonstrated skills in addiction counselling, including individual and group facilitation, and relapse prevention.
- Knowledge of mental health and addiction frameworks, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation, manage caseloads, and use electronic record systems or basic computer applications.
- Relevant education in addictions, counselling, or a related human services field; certification or registration with a qualified body is an asset.
- Experience working in residential or community-based addiction services, healthcare, or social services, preferably in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Understanding of ethical practice, confidentiality requirements, and cultural humility when working with diverse populations.
- Availability to work part time on-site in Chatham-Kent, ON, including possible evening, weekend, or over night shifts as required by program needs.
