The Commercial Analyst will play a key role in establishing and optimizing Business Operations’ functions, governance, and performance; commercially, contractually, financially, and operationally. This key position will interface with ENMAX Energy and Joint Venture (“JV”) stakeholders on a daily basis and will collaborate with various other business units throughout ENMAX, while representing the interest of ENMAX Energy to drive commercial values and optimization. The individual in this position will work closely with the Manager and under the mentorship of the senior analysts in the group.
Major Responsibilities:
- Support the commercial management of the JV assets and formal agreements, including commercial negotiations, deal structures, and dispute resolutions with JV asset counterparties
- Analyze existing contracts/arrangements and current strategic business opportunities. Scenario modeling includes financial analysis of outages, sensitivity testing, database manipulation and performance modeling
- Review changes in regulations and new regulations affecting the generation assets. Provide analytical review of the changes, develop strategies and evaluate the potential impact of these changes on assets, and joint venture agreements where applicable
- Responsible for the establishment and operationalization of the contractual framework, governance, process, and procedures, and maintain contract management systems and practices
- Liaise between Generation Operations, internal, and external stakeholders to ensure contractual compliance and investment optimization in accordance with formal Agreements, the Applicable Laws, ENMAX’s Policies and Programs, and overall corporate Strategy
- Coordinate, monitor, and support the JV communication/working-level forums’ activities and ensure the implementation and documentation of the forums’ deliverables
- Provide compliance management by analyzing various project and joint venture agreements
- Support the Root Cause Analysis (“RCA”) activities and ensure the implementation and monitoring of corrective actions regarding the JV assets
- Perform market analysis and forecasts and develop recommendations, accounting for facility characteristics, to optimize asset outage timing with operations
- Creating and maintaining policies, processes, and procedures in support of above-mentioned activities. Review and analyze processes and identify opportunities for process improvement
- Establish and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with frontline staff including field operations, RTO, Energy Marketing, and associated external counterparties
- Ad hoc reporting, data collection, modelling and analysis as required
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field – Engineering, Law, Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or Political Science
- Working towards a professional designation (P.Eng, CPA, CFA) or MBA would be considered an asset
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years related experience
- In-depth knowledge of power systems – generators, Alberta power market, and energy marketing products and framework
- In-depth knowledge of AESO and MSA rules and procedures as well as applicable regulations
- Proven experience in project management
- Intermediate experience in MS suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Good understanding of external risks such as political, economic, sociocultural, technological, environmental, and legal factors
- Ability to read, comprehend, create, and improve upon agreements, policies, and procedures

Salary: Analyst, Level C (2026 CUPE rates)
$103,117.92 - $109,565.27 - $116,012.62 - $122,459.97 - $128,907.32
Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) workforce with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will have the opportunity to work from home on Mondays and work in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
