Job Summary The Banquet Porter is responsible for ensuring efficient room set up for meetings, banquets, conferences, weddings, etc., to clients’ satisfaction. This includes: setting up rooms; maintaining storage and service areas; vacuuming and cleaning function rooms; hanging banners; decorating; assisting with the service of concession stands and meal functions; providing coffee service; etc.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and tear down meeting rooms according to the pre-determined standards of the department and hotel.
- Executes work requirements as per BEOs or contracts; follow details and guidelines of contract or BEO pertaining to room set up.
- Ensure guest service is thoroughly maintained at all times.
- Ensure guests needs and requirements are carried out in a helpful and courteous manner.
- Transport all equipment and store in the appropriate storage rooms.
- Understand and carry out duties according to all banquet event orders and the instructions for each event.
- Understand all hotel and guests functions to be able to answer any questions made by guests.
- Ensure security standards are practiced, to protect guest’s privacy and belongings.
- Meet and exceed guest and co-worker expectations by providing exemplary service and teamwork.
- Ensure all guests receive prompt attention, providing value-added service by doing whatever is reasonable and possible to exceed guest expectations.
- Adhere to all hotel policies and procedures, and follow procedures listed in shift checklists.
- Clean banquet rooms and corridors.
- Responds to Front desk calls, equipment and meeting supplies delivery to the meeting rooms.
- Communicates with MOD and co-workers regarding product/service deficiencies, equipment, safety problems, etc.
- Follow details and guidelines of contract pertaining to room set up.
- Set up banquet tables and coffee stations.
- Complete all miscellaneous duties as directed by your supervisor or manager that pertain to the operation of the department.
- Additional duties as assigned by the reporting manager.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must be adaptable to work a variety of shifts on weekdays, weekends and holidays including early mornings, evenings and late/overnights.
Mental Effort
- Mental effort required in multi-tasking and handling interruptions that require refocusing.
- Listening and mental attentiveness in tasks assigned by the reporting manager.
- Must be able to read and understand BEOs and/or contracts
Physical Effort
- Heavy lifting required.
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Walking for long periods of time.
- Lifting, bending and pulling.
Type of Supervision Required Reports to the Director of Food and Beverage and Banquets Manager. Works under general instructions to prioritize and complete assigned tasks.
