We are Parallel 49 Brewing Company, a craft brewery based in the heart of East Vancouver. We were founded in 2012 by passionate craft beer enthusiasts and have quickly become a staple in the Canadian craft beer scene. The Brewing & Cellar Lead Hand plays a pivotal role in achieving and exceeding daily, weekly, and monthly liquid production targets. Collaborating closely with the packaging, this position is essential for enhancing Parallel 49 Brewing Company's operational efficiency as we continue to expand and evolve into the future.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Oversee Brewing & Cellar team training for current employees, ensuring adherence to SOP and training programs.
2. Ensure completion of weekly tasks by delegating responsibilities among Brewing & Cellar team members under the guidance of the Brew Team Manager.
3. Ensure weekly production quotas are met and take corrective actions to get back on track.
4. Ensure adequate labour coverage during peak periods, maintaining efficiency and productivity.
5. Enforce safety procedures, including harness use for heights, safety glasses, and protective wear.
6. Adjust and update safety procedures as the brewery expands.
7. Ensure accurate daily production records are maintained in accordance with company processes and Federal Requirements.
8. Maintain cleanliness and safety of all beer production areas, including equipment and storage areas.
9.
Communicate equipment maintenance needs to maintenance technicians and escalate issues to the Brew Team Manager.
10. Delegate daily and weekly cleaning schedules to staff, ensuring high cleanliness standards are met.
11. Collaborate with Brew Team Manager in onboarding and hiring processes.
12. Keep an up-to-date inventory of all fermentables.
13. Actively participate in brewing and cellar processes from start to finish.
14. Coordinate with the Packaging team to ensure effective communication and smooth operations.
15. Ensure a full 4-person Brew team during work hours and adherence to the brewing schedule.
16. Ensure cleanliness of all brewing equipment and areas.
17. Monitor and maintain quality standards for all beers.
18. Examine brewhouse efficiencies and final volumes to maximize the quantity and quality of the final product.
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience or education in Brewing.
- 1+ years of forklift experience is an asset.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel and Word) is an asset.
- Experience in a brewery setting, including hands-on knowledge of hoses, carbonation checks, CIP systems, or brewery packaging is required
- Strong communication, leadership, and delegation skills.
- Ability to efficiently take direction and deploy it to the team.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with safety requirements within an active brewery, canning hall, and warehouse is required.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Must be able to stand, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
- May be required to work overtime hours or weekends.
