About The Role
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Communications and Engagement, the Communications Coordinator:
- provides advice and support to meet the Canada Council’s communication objectives;
- collaborates within the team and across the Canada Council to develop and publish internal communications content;
- monitors traditional and social media to identify issues, opportunities and emerging trends;
- monitors and coordinates centralized media inboxes, including one dedicated to media requests;
- follows up with the media by telephone or email, as required, and updates traditional and social media documents, protocols and records;
- ensures that the Communications section’s naming conventions and filing practices are consistently applied and supports team members in organizing and retaining working documents;
- draft responses using templates ;
- develops training plans, workshops and informal sessions in support of the manager to build internal communications and engagement capacity across the Canada Council;
- develops Communications section material for internal channels, including the Canada Council’s intranet;
- helps compile and analyze data relating to the performance of communications and social media activities, and helps prepare reports aimed at continuous improvement;
- monitors the Canada Council’s use of social media and the impact of social media posts, and develops related recommendations;
- uses approved digital tools and technology to support communications activities, and serves as a back-up for the social media Coordinator, providing additional communications-related support to the social media coordinator, the communications advisors and the manager on an “as needed” basis;
- and performs other related duties.
Education
- Undergraduate degree in marketing, journalism or communications or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience related to the responsibilities of the position.
Experience
- Three (3) years of experience in communications and marketing roles that include social media, issues management and/or internal communications.
Knowledge
- Excellent knowledge of communications, public relations and social media procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of evolving trends, tools and services that can further develop the Canada Council’s media presence.
- Solid knowledge of social media platforms and tools such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.
- Positive understanding of the arts and culture landscape in Canada.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to use contemporary office technology, equipment and software.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment and adapt to multiple, concurrent priorities.
- Skills in communication, organization, administration, priority-setting and interpersonal relations, combined with good judgment and a strong sense of initiative.
- Ability to pilot projects and files independently.
- Excellent writing skills in both English and French.
Bilingual Requirements This position requires the use of both official languages. The requirements in the second official language are:
- An advanced level reading comprehension (C)
- An advanced level in writing (C)
- An advanced level in oral (C)
