Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Executive Chef position located at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

The Executive Chef will lead all culinary operations across campus dining, catering, retail food services, and special events. Beyond delivering exceptional food and service, the successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing Acadia University's sustainability objectives by championing local sourcing, seasonal menu development, waste reduction initiatives, and community partnerships.

Working closely with students, university stakeholders, local producers, and the Chartwells leadership team, the Executive Chef will create innovative culinary experiences that celebrate the flavors of Nova Scotia and the Annapolis Valley while supporting Acadia's commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement.

Key responsibilities include

- Leading and mentoring a diverse culinary team while fostering a culture of inclusion,



collaboration, learning, and professional development.
- Developing menus that showcase local, seasonal, and sustainably sourced ingredients whenever possible.
- Building and maintaining relationships with local farmers, fishers, artisans, and food suppliers to strengthen regional food systems.
- Supporting campus sustainability initiatives through waste reduction, responsible procurement, composting, and efficient resource management.
- Managing food and labor costs while maintaining exceptional culinary standards and guest satisfaction.
- Collaborating with university partners to create engaging dining experiences that reflect student preferences, cultural diversity, health and wellness goals, and community values.
- Ensuring compliance with all food safety, health, sanitation, and workplace safety regulations.
- Supporting experiential learning opportunities, campus events, and programs that connect students with food, sustainability, and local agriculture.

Qualifications

- Proven culinary expertise, including advanced cooking techniques, menu development, and food presentation with a commitment to quality and innovation.
- Strong leadership experience managing high-performing culinary teams in a collaborative and inclusive setting.
- Demonstrated passion for local food systems, sustainable sourcing, and environmental stewardship.
- Experience developing relationships with local suppliers, farmers, producers, and community partners.




- Knowledge of food waste reduction strategies, sustainable procurement practices, and responsible kitchen operations.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, inventory management, and labor planning.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and occupational health regulations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, university leadership, and community partners.
- Previous experience as an Executive Chef or senior culinary leader within higher education, hospitality, contract food service, or institutional dining environments is considered an asset.
- Culinary diploma, Red Seal certification, or equivalent professional designation preferred.
- Passion for mentoring future culinary talent and contributing to a positive campus culture.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining a focus on service excellence and continuous improvement.
