Role Description
Sapienta Academy is seeking a part time French Tutor / French Language Educator to support students in developing strong French-language and academic literacy skills.
The tutor will work primarily one-on-one or with small groups of students at the secondary, CEGEP, and, when appropriate, university levels. Students may require support with their current school courses, preparation for evaluations, or broader development of their French-language abilities.
Areas of instruction may include:
- Reading comprehension and textual analysis
- Written expression and academic writing
- Grammar, syntax, spelling, and language conventions
- Vocabulary development
- Oral comprehension and communication
- Organization and clarity of ideas
- Critical reading and critical thinking
- Strategies for interpreting, analyzing, and responding to texts
- Québec French-language competencies and curriculum expectations
- Preparation for school and CEGEP assessments
Courses and student needs may range from French as a Second Language (FLS) and French as a Foreign Language (FLE) to secondary-school French and CEGEP-level French courses. The tutor will be expected to adapt instruction to each student's level, identify areas requiring improvement, provide constructive feedback, and help students gradually become more confident and independent learners.
Qualifications
- Quebec teaching brevet (brevet d’enseignement), OR current enrolment in a recognized university teacher-education program
- Ability to support students with both language development and academic French
- Ability to encourage students to think critically about texts, language, and their own writing
- Ability to adapt instruction to different ages, proficiency levels, learning profiles, and academic goals
- Ability to work independently and maintain clear records of student progress
Assets
- Previous experience teaching or tutoring French in Québec schools, CEGEPs, or educational centres
- Experience teaching FLS and/or FLE
- Experience supporting students with CEGEP French courses
- Experience with online teaching platforms and digital educational tools
- Experience working with students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds
This is a part-time position, with teaching hours determined according to student demand and tutor availability.
