Lead Furniture Framer & Springer (Woodwork / Frame Shop)
SIXTREND is a growing custom furniture company, and we're looking for an experienced Lead Furniture Framer & Springer to join our production team. This is an on-site position at our North York facility.
This role is for candidates with prior experience (minimum 2 years) building or repairing upholstered furniture frames in a production shop. Applications without this experience will not be considered.
Join our dynamic team as a Frame Builder specializing in sofas, sofa beds, chairs, and other specialty upholstered products. In this role, you'll be at the very start of the manufacturing process, turning lumber, plywood and hardware into the structure every finished piece is built on. Your work sets the shape, the seat height and the durability of the product, and everything downstream depends on it. We're looking for motivated woodworkers who take pride in square, solid, well-built frames.
Responsibilities
- Build solid wood and plywood frames for sofas, sofa beds, chairs and sectionals from shop drawings
- Create cut lists and plans for prototypes, new models, and existing catalogue models
- Operate shop equipment safely and accurately, including table saw, mitre saw, band saw, router, sander, drill press and pneumatic staplers and nailers
- Cut, dowel, glue, screw and staple frame components to tight tolerances, with corner blocks and proper reinforcement at all stress points
- Install sinuous (no-sag) springs, webbing, spring clips, edge wire and burlap to correct crown, tension and spacing
- Check frames for square,
level and correct dimensions before releasing them to upholstery
- Read and work from shop drawings, cut plans and specifications, and flag any discrepancies
- Maintain a clean, organized workstation and keep blades, bits and pneumatic tools in good working order
- Assist with material handling, including lumber, sheet goods and completed frames
- Collaborate with upholsterers and other team members to meet daily production goals
- Report machine malfunctions, material defects or quality issues promptly to the supervisor
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience building or repairing upholstered furniture frames in a production setting
- Confident, safe operation of woodworking machinery and pneumatic tools
- Ability to read shop drawings, cut lists and measurements accurately, in both imperial and metric
- Experience with sinuous spring installation. Eight-way hand tying is a strong asset
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
- Ability to lift heavy materials and to stand, walk and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
- Understanding of safety procedures within a manufacturing setting
- Experience with sofa bed and recliner mechanisms is an asset
- Prototype or sample frame building experience is an asset
Build the bones of furniture that lands in homes across the country. We value skilled, energetic people who thrive in a collaborative shop and want to grow with a company that is scaling up its production.
