GENERAL LABOUR PACKER (Pork Line)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Pork Lead Hand and Production Supervisor of Beef/Pork, the General Labour Packer performs a wide range of manual tasks. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality production of protein food products and meeting all established targets. This physically demanding role involves various tasks to reach production targets while strictly maintaining food quality and safety standards in a cold, fast-paced environment.
Provisions may be made to cover the absence of an employee in this position.
- Execute a range of tasks, including sorting, cutting, and packing meat products.
- Utilize knives to precisely cut, trim, and separate pork into specified rib cuts, adhering strictly to specifications or customer orders.
- Remove all excess fat, bone fragments, bruises, or unacceptable tissue from cuts to meet required quality grades and presentation standards.
- Coordinate with downstream processing teams to maintain a continuous flow of product from totes, ensuring timely movement and sorting of meat sections to the next stage (processing or packaging).
- Continuously monitor product quality during cutting,
immediately identifying and correcting defects to ensure compliance with internal standards and food safety regulations. Immediately report any defects or foreign objects.
- Safely operate and maintain all cutting tools. (e.g., knives).
- Perform other duties as assigned by Lead Hands and Supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or Grade 12 equivalent is preferred.
- 1+ year of experience in manufacturing or food/meat production is preferred Experience with food safety and HACCP principles.
- Must be able to regularly lift up to 18 kg. and stand for extended periods.
- Attend to details, precision is needed for accurate cutting and trimming.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate knives.
- Proven ability to understand and follow safety and work instructions in English.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Possession of, Food Safety certification is an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work in a fast-paced, refrigerated setting, involving proximity to machinery and food ingredients.
- Work in cold, wet and slippery plant conditions for extended periods of time.
- Require flexible availability, including mandatory Saturday shifts.
- Require use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Job Type: Part time Pay Rate: $19.65 - 20.65 per hour, plus shift premium
