About Depol Contracting

Depol Contracting Ltd. is a growing landscape construction company based in Nanaimo, BC.

We specialize in landscape construction, including retaining walls, paving stones, fencing, excavation, grading, drainage, artificial turf, and complete landscape installations.

We're looking for an experienced Hardscape Lead Hand who can take responsibility on site, produce high-quality work, and help lead a crew efficiently.

This is not an entry-level position.

Responsibilities

- Lead small crews and work alongside team members on site
- Read plans, measurements, grades, and project layouts
- Layout and construct retaining walls
- Install interlocking pavers, patios, walkways, and driveways
- Complete excavation, base preparation, grading, and compaction
- Install drainage systems
- Complete fencing and other landscape construction
- Set elevations and maintain proper grades
- Operate skid steers and mini excavators
- Safely load, unload, and transport equipment
- Direct and train labourers
- Plan daily tasks and keep projects moving efficiently
- Monitor workmanship and ensure company quality standards are met
- Track materials and communicate material requirements
- Maintain clean and organized jobsites
- Communicate jobsite issues with the Foreman/Owner
- Follow and enforce company and WorkSafeBC safety procedures

What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of hardscape, landscape construction, or relevant construction experience preferred




- Solid experience installing retaining walls and/or paving stones
- Ability to lead and work alongside a crew
- Strong understanding of base preparation, compaction, elevations, and drainage
- Ability to work from plans and measurements
- Skid steer and mini excavator experience strongly preferred
- Valid driver's licence
- Comfortable towing equipment trailers preferred
- Reliable transportation
- Physically capable of performing landscape construction work
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Reliable and punctual
- Takes pride in producing high-quality work
