About Whistler Food and BeverageWhistler Food and Beverage Inc. is a Burnaby-based manufacturer of premium bottled water products. Our facility operates high-speed production and packaging equipment, including Krones and other automated systems.

We are looking for a Junior Mechanical & Maintenance Technologist to join our technical and manufacturing team.

This position is well suited to a recent graduate or early-career professional who wants to build strong practical experience in industrial maintenance, manufacturing equipment, troubleshooting and equipment improvement.

The RoleThis is a hands-on, mechanical-focused position working directly with our production and maintenance operations.

The role is approximately

70% Mechanical / Maintenance

30% Electrical / Controls / Automation The successful candidate will progressively develop from hands-on equipment operation and equipment knowledge into mechanical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repairs, equipment reliability and improvement.

Hands-On Equipment DevelopmentAn important part of this position is learning the equipment from the ground up.

During the initial training period, the successful candidate will spend meaningful time operating and working directly with production equipment alongside our production and maintenance teams.

This is intentional and is not intended to be a long-term production operator role.

We believe that someone responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and improving industrial equipment should first understand how the equipment actually operates under real production conditions.

During this initial development period, you will gain practical experience with:

- Operating production and packaging equipment
- Understanding normal equipment operation and production cycles
- Equipment start-up and shutdown
- Changeovers and machine adjustments
- Observing equipment behaviour under different production conditions
- Recognizing abnormal sounds, vibration, temperature, pressure and machine behaviour
- Understanding how production conditions affect equipment performance
- Observing and assisting with troubleshooting when equipment problems occur

Our intended development path is:



Equipment Operation → Equipment Understanding → Troubleshooting → Preventive Maintenance → Mechanical Repair → Equipment Improvement

As your equipment knowledge and experience grow, your responsibilities will progressively shift toward maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, equipment reliability and improvement.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production and packaging equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical problems involving conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings and other industrial equipment
- Work with pneumatic systems, valves and related components
- Assist with equipment installation, adjustment, alignment and commissioning
- Diagnose equipment failures and assist with identifying root causes
- Support production staff with equipment-related issues
- Perform mechanical repairs and component replacement
- Assist with equipment improvement and reliability projects
- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot basic sensors, motors, VFDs and control components
- Develop familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment and automated production systems
- Work with electricians and other qualified personnel on electrical and controls-related issues
- Maintain maintenance records and assist with preventive maintenance planning
- Follow workplace safety, lockout/tagout and food manufacturing requirements

What We Are Looking ForWe are particularly interested in candidates with:
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Manufacturing, Mechanical Systems, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field
- New graduates or candidates with approximately 0–5 years of relevant experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Genuine interest in industrial machinery and manufacturing equipment
- Hands-on approach to problem solving
- Ability and willingness to work directly with machinery on the production floor
- Strong willingness to learn and develop practical technical skills
- Good communication and teamwork skills




- Strong safety awareness

Preferred / Assets
- BCIT Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Systems, Mechanical Manufacturing or Mechatronics background
- Industrial, manufacturing or maintenance experience
- Experience with mechanical troubleshooting
- Experience with pumps, conveyors, motors, gearboxes or pneumatic systems
- Basic electrical troubleshooting knowledge
- Familiarity with sensors, VFDs, PLCs or automation
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment documentation
- Millwright apprenticeship or related trades experience

ScheduleMonday to Friday. Working hours may vary depending on production schedules and operational requirements, generally within 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
