Summary Of The Opportunity

SelfDesign Learning Foundation is seeking an experienced educational consultant for our SelfDesign Learning Community (SDLC) to complete a thorough review of our camp policies, procedures and practices, identifying gaps or areas of risk, and providing recommendations to strengthen and align SelfDesign's camp policies and procedures with current best practices.

This is a contract prospect that we anticipate taking approximately one month to complete. Ideally, the work will be completed no later than October 31, 2026.

This contract is ideal for someone with experience in K-12 outdoor education with a focus on risk management, child safety and emergency response. Strong knowledge and experience in developing policies based on British Columbia's relevant legislation and regulations.

Work Environment

We are a remote organization.

We operate during Pacific Time zone business hours, Monday to Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

You set your own hours of work and will need to be available for occasional online meetings during the hours noted above. Meetings are scheduled in advance.

Timelines

Anticipated contract start date: September 28, 2026

Anticipated contract end date: October 31, 2026

Budget: Up to $20,000. Applicants to provide budget estimate and cost breakdown.

Contract Details

Oversight: You will work at the direction of the SelfDesign Learning Community Principal Team

Deliverables Required

- A review of existing camp-related policies and procedures.
- An environmental scan of relevant best practices and standards.
- A gap analysis identifying areas for improvement.
- A final report containing prioritized recommendations.
- Recommended policy and procedure revisions and/or implementation considerations.

Experience and Credentials

- Experience in K–12 education, outdoor education, experiential learning, youth programs, risk management, or a related field.




- Expertise in risk management, child safety, inclusion/accessibility, Indigenous perspectives, emergency response, and overnight camp programming.
- Knowledge of British Columbia legislation, regulations, and best practices related to student safety, supervision, risk management, inclusion, and school-sponsored camps or field experiences.
- Experience conducting policy and procedure reviews.
- Degree, certification or an equivalent combination of work experience in education administration or related.
