Job Summary

University Libraries support learning and research by providing access to information, resources, and services. Reporting to the Manager, Library Services at the Sexton Library, the Library Services Assistant delivers frontline library services and supports document delivery, library projects, acquisitions, collection maintenance, and resource access. The position also provides assistance across Dalhousie University library locations as required, contributing to the effective delivery of library services throughout the system.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide frontline library services, including circulation, reference, document delivery, and patron support in person, by phone, email, and virtual channels.
- Assist library users in locating and accessing print and electronic resources, databases, catalogues, subject guides, and research tools.
- Perform lending function of document delivery including document retrieval, copying, scanning, saving documents as electronic files and transferring electronic files.




- Perform collection management activities and occasional copy-cataloguing in accordance with library standards and procedures.
- Support digitization projects, collections initiatives, and other library projects.
- Contribute to the efficient operation of library services across multiple campus locations.

Note Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

- Library & Information Technology diploma approximately one to two years of library service experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Basic knowledge of library resource management and cataloguing (Resource Description and Access ( RDA ), Library of Congress classification and Machine-Readable Cataloging ( MARC )), experience searching and using library databases and electronic resources.
- Experience with library services platforms and other relevant library technology tools and an aptitude for using a variety of software programs.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new technologies and library applications.
- Excellent customer service, communication, organizational, troubleshooting, and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently.
