Chemistry Consulting Group is pleased to be partnering with Focused Education Resources Society (Focused Education) in leading the recruitment for a Senior Cybersecurity Specialist.Focused Education Resources Society members consist of all 60 BC school districts, more than 100 independent and First Nations schools, and the Northwest Territories and the Yukon Departments of Education.Under the direction of the Director of Cybersecurity Services, the Senior Cybersecurity Specialist will provide subject matter expertise in cybersecurity and data governance to members of the K-12 school district community, to ensure the successful execution of Focused Education's Cybersecurity Services program. The position will provide cybersecurity related governance, risk management, and audit services support to school districts as required.The Senior Cybersecurity Specialist is responsible for advising, coaching, planning, and implementing cybersecurity initiatives in support of school districts to assist them in protecting their technologies and data. In addition, the Senior Cybersecurity Specialist is accountable for engaging with and providing leadership to various stakeholders to promote continuous improvement and understanding of cybersecurity risks and best practices.RESPONSIBILITIESTechnical LeadershipAdvise, develop, and apply industry best practices in cybersecurity for our members, the BC K-12 school districtsChampion strategies to protect school district data, communications, and technologies, from being stolen, manipulated, held at ransom, corrupted, or otherwise accessed illegallyAssist with the planning and execution of Focused Education's IT4K12 annual conference and support the cybersecurity content evaluationPlanning & ExecutionPerform cybersecurity assessments to test and identify network and system vulnerabilitiesFacilitate technical and operational audits and reviews of key internal control proceduresDocument relevant business processes and their implications with regards to cybersecurityIssue written reports outlining findings and recommendations based on audit resultsAssist with the automation of monitoring and alerting processes and workflows to improve cybersecurity efficiencyAssess compliance with organizational cybersecurity rules and standardsAdvise on remediation of gaps based on internal and external auditsTraining and SupportAdvise on cybersecurity awareness and training campaignsDevelop documentation and instructions for cybersecurity related proceduresProject ManagementPlan and coordinate cybersecurity related projectsOther duties as requiredKEY ATTRIBUTESCollaborative: Natural engagement skills and the ability to work well with others.Cutting-edge: Passion for championing modernization and continuous improvement in service excellence. Demonstrates integrity and ethical behaviour.Responsive: A creative team player with a member-focused orientation; able to manage ambiguity, uncertainty and changing priorities, has initiative and ability to work independently, yet be a collaborative team member.Education and ExperienceB.Sc. in Computer Science or related disciplineAdvanced certification(s) such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), etc.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered4-6 years' cybersecurity experience within a technically complex organizationRequired SkillsExperience leading and overseeing cybersecurity investigations, audits, and assessmentsKnowledge of Pen Testing and Hacking techniquesExperience with log management platforms (SIEMs)Ability to document, graph, or otherwise visually represent security concepts, configurations,
and workflowsProject oriented and analytical, with meticulous attention to accuracy and detailStrong understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems and TCP/IP stackIn-depth knowledge of cloud platforms and how they integrate into security modelsExcellent organizational, administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)A high level of professionalism and ability to collaborate and work effectively with all stakeholdersAbility to maintain strict confidentiality, exercise initiative, diplomacy, and discretionary judgmentDemonstrated ability to compose written material in a variety of formatsAbility to work under pressure and manage competing priorities and demandsWorking ConditionsFocused Education has a hybrid work model and the amount of time in-office and remote is negotiable and dependent on where the employee lives. Generally, it is required to be in the office two days a week, and for meetings and team events as required.
