Hours: 36.25 hours per week

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM – 4:30 PM Alberta Time

Position Overview

We are seeking a Machine Learning Specialist to support the design and development of analytical data products and services. The successful candidate will work as part of a team supporting data initiatives through machine learning, artificial intelligence, data analysis, data science, data modelling, statistical analysis, and data product development.

The role will support the use of data to develop analytical models, algorithms, insights, and solutions.

Responsibilities

- Provide hands-on support, leadership, advice, and direction on data initiatives.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to understand their analytics needs.
- Identify when machine learning should and should not be applied to a problem.
- Identify the requirements and prerequisites for effective machine learning applications.
- Support and mentor others in the application of machine learning.
- Help identify and select appropriate machine learning tools, services, and infrastructure.
- Create data collection, normalization, and data-cleaning procedures.
- Develop training scripts and train machine learning models for specific domains.
- Perform machine learning analysis on large datasets and report findings.
- Create machine learning analytics, reports, and insights.
- Integrate trained machine learning models into applications.
- Develop auditing, accountability, and transparency mechanisms for machine learning capabilities.
- Work within applicable privacy requirements and provide ethical and practical guidance on machine learning implementation.




- Develop and share analytical models and products.
- Analyze and organize raw data for prescriptive and predictive modelling.
- Build algorithms that provide business value.
- Support the development of full-stack data analytics or AI applications as required.
- Provide expertise and leadership in the design and completion of analytical projects.
- Conduct complex data analysis.
- Collaborate with data engineers and analysts on various projects.
- Apply statistical classification and data mining techniques, including:
- K-means clustering
- Hierarchical clustering
- Partition trees
- Logistic regression
- Gather and document client requirements.
- Capture business and technical metadata for machine learning products.
- Escalate issues and risks as appropriate.
- Work effectively within a multi-vendor and staff environment.
- Perform other related responsibilities as required.

Requirements Must-Have Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field of study. Equivalent education may be considered.

Required Experience:

Candidates must have at least 6 years of experience in each of the following:

- Using statistical and computer languages such as R, Python, and SQL.
- Building analytical and quantitative analysis models.
- Preparing data for prescriptive and predictive modelling.




- Working with different approaches and methods for data analytics and data science, including complex statistical modelling.
- Applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) to data science or analytics.
- Using ML/AI for applications such as anomaly detection, predictive monitoring, AI-assisted data transformation, or automation.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience with data sharing, data linkage, de-identification, metadata, data quality, ethics, synthetic data, and data literacy.
- 5+ years of experience combining raw data from a variety of data sources across different domains.
- 5+ years of experience understanding complex business questions and framing the appropriate analytical question to solve a business problem.
- 5+ years of experience preparing visualizations, dashboards, and analytical models.
- 6+ years of experience with statistical and data mining techniques to address business issues.
- 4+ years of experience working with large government datasets.

Background Check & Training A standard criminal background check is required before the start of the engagement.

The successful candidate will be required to complete mandatory training.
