Manager, Business Services
Temporary (6 Months)
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Primary Purpose The Manager, Business Services provides leadership, oversight and coordination of Business Services. This leader translates business strategies into unit goals and objectives, identifies the products and services which the business member needs in their financial relationship, while managing the operations to be efficient and effective.
The Manager, Business Services is to conduct their duties and carry themselves while demonstrating positive leadership within the Credit Union and externally in the community. The Manager, Business Services is to inspire the employees of Business Services to achieve their maximum potential and produce results in the best interest of the Credit Union while respecting and delivering the needs of members. Providing for financial health of the unit while contributing to the operational and financial health of the Credit Union as a whole.
Key Accountabilities
Business Development & Community Presence
- Manages and maintains relations with a network of key contacts and centres to influence to enhance the credit union’s image and reputation through effective public relations including presentations to business members.
- Maintains knowledge of the business market, including services, products, rates, fees, current market activity, and economic factors locally and nationally to identify opportunities for Northern Savings.
- Identifies and solicits new sales opportunities from prospective business partners while monitoring customer needs to determine focus of sales efforts and area(s) of interest, retail commercial wealth management or insurance.
- Acts as the initial key contact for potential business partners to develop, cultivate,
and establish productive and collaborative relationship with division leads.
- Makes the introduction/referral to the appropriate are of interest for recent business partners once a relationship has been developed and priorities have been identified.
- Leverages existing business relationships to identify and develop new relationships and cross selling opportunities.
- Receives and analyses financial and personal net worth statements, calculates debt servicing capacity; negotiates terms and conditions of loan.
- Represents the credit union in the community and at business functions to identify potential business opportunities (e.g., chamber of commerce, professional organization, etc)
- Continually markets the benefits of membership to non-members to grow the membership.
- Presents a professional image to members and internal customers (other staff).
Risk & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Support audit readiness and follow-up on identified issues
- Reinforce risk awareness and operational discipline at the branch level
- Proactively identifies inherent risk to products and operations and implements appropriate risk responses to mitigate to acceptable tolerance.
Leadership & Coaching
- Builds a positive capable team with a focus on member service and attaining goals.
- Coaches staff on business development, sales and relationship management.
- Works with direct reports in establishing annual personal goals and targets and supervises progress on meeting those goals.
- Identifies training needs to assist knowledge level of staff and facilitates the delivery of such.
- Collaborates with staff in addressing services issues and member concerns.
- Identifies process improvements and works with the COO to develop solutions.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- A degree in Business Management or relevant post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required.
- Completion of sales and service training or equivalent is required.
- Completion of Accredited Business Lender program or equivalent or willing to obtain.
Experience
- Previous Management experience and leadership of a sales team is preferred.
- 5+ years of business lending experience preferred.
- Previous retail lending experience preferred.
- Previous financial services experience is required.
- Extensive credit background and experience in evaluating all aspects of credit decisions, including risk, at a corporate level.
Skills
- Demonstrated sales and service skills.
- Experience in research and negotiation is an asset.
- Ability to prioritize, organize work within time constraints, and work under pressure.
- Ability to communicate and liaise professionally with all members, potential customers and co-workers while maintaining confidentiality.
- Expert financial system knowledge and skills required.
- Understanding financial statements
- Expert knowledge of business lending products and services is preferred.
- Expert knowledge of Credit Risk policy is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Working knowledge, skills and experience in Microsoft Office.
- Commitment to continuous learning and self-development.
Travel is a requirement of this position.
