Company Description The Hamilton School of Music is a progressive, community-focused music school that has been serving Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Dundas, Binbrook, and surrounding areas since 1995. Under the direction of Brenda Kushnir, the school emphasizes creative yet structured instruction tailored to each student’s interests, goals, and learning style. Professionally trained teachers provide a supportive and encouraging environment that respects individual differences and builds confidence and motivation.

Instruction is offered by highly qualified musicians across a wide range of instruments, including piano, voice, guitar, bass, drums, strings, woodwinds, brass, and accordion. The school is also a licensed Kindermusik facility, offering specialized early childhood music programs.

Role Description The Music Instructor is responsible for delivering engaging, student-centered music lessons to learners of various ages and skill levels in an on-site setting located in Hamilton, ON. This part-time role involves planning and teaching individual and small group lessons, introducing and reinforcing music theory, and guiding students in technique, repertoire, and performance skills. The instructor will assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and goals.





Additional responsibilities may include preparing students for recitals or examinations, maintaining accurate lesson notes, collaborating with other instructors, and supporting a positive, inclusive learning environment aligned with the school’s philosophy.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in Music Theory and general Music knowledge, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and accessibly.
- Demonstrate Music Performance skills with confidence in performing and modeling technique for students.
- Background in Music Education, including experience planning lessons, assessing progress, and adapting instruction for diverse learners.
- Proficiency in Piano, with the ability to teach piano students at beginner to intermediate (and ideally advanced) levels.
- Relevant post-secondary education in Music or Music Education, or equivalent professional training and experience.
- Previous teaching experience in private lessons or group classes, ideally in a school or studio environment.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient, encouraging approach to working with children, youth, and adults.
- Ability to work on-site in Hamilton, ON on a part-time schedule, including evenings and/or weekends as needed.
- Experience with additional instruments or early childhood music programs an asset.
