The Ottawa International Airport Authority (Authority) is accepting applications for a full-time Coordinator, Occupational Health and Safety.
The person in this role is responsible for planning, coordinating, conducting and documenting proactive actions under the Authority’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, policies and procedures and industry best standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinate and conduct workplace inspections and walk-through hazard assessments across all Authority facilities and infrastructure
Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and injuries, and recommend corrective and preventative actions
Perform ergonomic assessments and coordinate the procurement and proper installation of recommended equipment
Consult with supervisors and management to assess safety needs and recommend appropriate solutions, products, or services
Coordinate and participate in internal and external audits or assessments of OHS programs, and assist with implementing resulting recommendations
Coordinate and facilitate safety training for employees, including working at heights, forklift operation, safe chainsaw use, and other required training
Review and update safety programs, policies, and standard operating procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with industry best practices
Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and provide recommendations to maintain organizational compliance
Prepare reports, correspondence, statistical summaries, and supporting documentation related to OHS activities
Coordinate and support Workplace Health and Safety Committee activities, including preparing agendas, documenting meeting minutes, and tracking follow-up actions
Maintain accurate and complete OHS records, including inspections, meetings, and training documentation
Research, analyze, and audit safety data and programs to identify gaps and recommend mitigation measures and continuous improvement opportunities
Support the Manager, OHS with special projects, compliance initiatives and ongoing OHS initiatives
Review and process personal protective equipment (PPE) requests and support PPE inventory tracking and compliance
Coordinate with the Airside Safety Management System (ASMS) team on investigations with overlapping OHS and airside safety implications
Respond to OHS-related inquiries and ad hoc operational requests as required
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
College diploma or university degree in Science, Biology, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in an OHS role, preferably in a complex or regulated operational environment
Minimum of one (1) year of experience working on construction sites in an OHS capacity
Experience developing reports, policies, procedures, and safety documentation
Demonstrated experience developing and delivering safety orientation programs and coordinating safety training sessions
Practical experience interpreting and applying federal and/or provincial occupational health and safety legislation, technical standards, and applicable building codes
Knowledge of accident and incident investigation techniques, including root cause analysis
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel
Experience with data entry, data extraction, reporting, and database management

Candidates will be required to successfully complete a bilingual language assessment as part of the selection process
ASSETS
Certified Office Ergonomics Evaluator or knowledge of ergonomics applicable to office and/or industrial environments
Experience advising/serving on a workplace health and safety committee or acting as a safety representative
Working knowledge of ISO 45001 OHS Management Systems
Experience in the application of aviation or airport Safety Management Systems
Currently pursuing, or willingness to pursue, a recognized occupational health and safety certification (for example, ROHT, CRST, etc.)
Knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) pertaining to airports and Safety Management Systems (107 and 300 series CARs)
Knowledge of presentation software such as PowerPoint
ABOUT THE POSITION
Salary
$86,938 to $98,262 per year in accordance with the current Collective Agreement (July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2028 rates).
Job requirements
Must be able to safely lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
Have a valid driver’s license (Class G or equivalent)
Provide a driver’s abstract (issued within the last month)
Successfully obtain a security clearance check for a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
