Fintech / Consumer Lending
About the Opportunity Our client is a publicly traded fintech company that facilitates access to credit for consumers underserved by traditional banks, operating across the US, Canada, and the UK through multiple lending brands. Built on a proprietary AI-driven underwriting platform, the business has grown quickly while staying disciplined on profitability, and continues to scale its loan book and partner programs.
This 12-month contract sits on a finance team of three and covers the day-to-day close, reconciliation, and reporting work so the core team can stay focused on strategic initiatives. The role owns month-end from start to finish: journal entries, flash reporting, variance analysis, loan and allowance calculations under IFRS 9, and the reconciliations that tie the general ledger back to the loan database across multiple brands. There's also a system upgrade running in the background, so this person may help bridge reporting between the old and new database as that transition plays out.
The month runs on a tight cadence — books close by BD7, BD7 to BD10 is analytics, and the back half of the month is enhancements and documentation. It's quick-paced and deadline-driven, and the ideal candidate is someone who can run the existing process cleanly on day one while also spotting what looks off.
Main Duties
Execute month-end close within a 5-day turnaround: journal entries, flash reports, variance analysis
Update the allowance/provision calculation and summary file under IFRS 9
Prepare and post journal entries, including export file preparation
Perform loan reconciliations comparing the trial balance to the database across multiple brands
Pull financial statements manually from NetSuite for loan notes and reporting
Update and maintain PowerBI reporting for new monthly data; flag anomalies
Complete post-month-end reconciliations and roll-forward files
Support year-end audit sampling — extract loan-level data from the database and prepare files for auditors
Assist with reconciling the old and new database during the system upgrade
Follow documented workbooks and step-by-step processes to manipulate large data sets accurately
30:
Fully up to speed on the month-end calendar, workbooks, and existing documentation; running the core close tasks with minimal oversight
60:
Independently owning the full month-end cycle including reconciliations and PowerBI updates, proactively flagging variances
90:
Fully embedded in the team, contributing to system upgrade reconciliation work and ready to support year-end audit prep
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of PowerBI
Understanding of IFRS 9 and experience with loans, credit cards, or allowance/provision accounting
Process-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable operating in a tight 5-day month-end cycle
Nice to Have
Experience with NetSuite
Prior exposure to a lending or consumer finance environment
Experience working through a system/database migration or dual-reporting period
