We are looking for Casual Relief Registered Nurse to join our Outreach team!

As a Relief Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for assisting clients in developing skills to manage symptoms of mental illness and substance use, supporting an integrated approach to care using the recovery model framework. The Outreach Relief RN will work within the Outreach schedule to provide primary nursing care to clients of the program, support the mobile health clinic as needed, and complete rotations answering the 24/7 Street Help Line.

Status: Contract Casual, 12-hour shifts covering evenings and weekend (Minimum of 2 shifts per month). Note, this posting is for an active vacancy.

Base Salary: $38.73 - $45.72 hourly (Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting salary).

Location: This position is based out of our office at 60 West Drive, Brampton. Due to the nature of the program, this role is on-site and community based.

What you will do

- To provide comprehensive Nursing Care as part of the Peel Outreach Mobile Health Clinic
- Build client capacity, empowerment and create self-reliance
- Develop and initiate relationships with prospective clients based on trust, respect, and honesty
- Maintain professional relationships with referral sources and other service providers.
- Working knowledge of chemical dependency, including the pathophysiology of substance use and withdrawal
- Collaborate with mental health and addiction service providers to support the mental health, addiction and primary care health needs of clients who may be in crisis or involved with community mental health and addictions agencies





- Conduct comprehensive bio-psychosocial model of care and best practices for concurrent disorders
- Communicate information, both verbally and in writing regarding assessments, treatment plans and evaluations to the treatment team, client, referral source and other caregivers within practice/agency/legal guidelines
- Participate in regular staff meetings and treatment planning review meetings and to provide the nursing perspective

- Take the lead role or participate in providing medication administration and other medical services, under the direction of the prescribing physicians or nurse practitioners.
- Monitors the ongoing therapy of clients with addictions, chronic mental and physical illness by providing effective pharmacological, complementary, or counselling interventions
- Develop, maintain, and supervise psychopharmacologic and medical treatment and medication policies and procedures including transcribing, administering, evaluating, and recording psychotropic/anti-craving medications prescribed by the Nurse Practitioners or Physician; evaluate and chart psychotropic medication effectiveness, complications, and side effects; and arrange for required lab work according to protocol

- Organize and manage the system of getting medication to clients and integrating medication administration tightly into clients’ individual treatment plans and providing direction and guidance to other team member Under the direction of the psychiatrist/ Nurse Practitioner
- Manage pharmaceuticals and medical supplies Under the direction of the Nurse Practitioner or Physician

What you need to join our team

- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing CPMHN (c) is an asset
- A minimum of 4-5 years’ experience working with clients who have addictions and mental illness
- Experience supporting clients in a community setting
- Certification in First Aid, C.P.R., A.S.I.S.T is an asset
- Wound care and foot care certification an asset
- Experience with street nursing is an asset
- Supporting Mobile Health vehicle an asset
- Advanced knowledge of psychotropic medication and medications used in withdrawal management
- Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence.
- Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework.
- Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language)

- Valid Canadian driver’s license and access to an insured automobile in good repair
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report
