We are ideally looking for someone who has experience working with or leading a review engagement and who is comfortable preparing financial statements and supporting schedules with limited supervision.
Experience with IFRS is strongly preferred.
This role is intended to have significant advancement potential. Our goal is for the successful candidate, based on performance and capability, to develop into a Controller position within approximately 1–2 years, with the opportunity to take on broader finance leadership responsibilities as Freightera continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate monthly and year-end closing processes
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals and account reconciliations

- Prepare schedules and working papers requested by external accountants
- Respond to accounting and review engagement questions and follow through on outstanding items
- Assist with the preparation and review of GST/HST, PST and other tax filings
- Support cash-flow, working-capital and balance sheet reporting
- Assist with accounting treatment and financial reporting under IFRS
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and documentation
- Review work completed by junior accounting staff and provide guidance where required
- Work with management on budgeting, forecasting and other finance projects
- Take increasing ownership of the company’s accounting and financial reporting function as experience and responsibilities grow
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- Candidates who have completed the CFE or are actively progressing toward their CPA designation may also be considered
- Approximately 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Robust full-cycle accounting experience
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting schedules
- Experience participating in or leading an external review engagement
- Strong understanding of month-end and year-end closing processes
- Experience with account reconciliations and general ledger accounting
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate will also have:
- CPA designation
- Experience independently coordinating or leading a review engagement
- Experience preparing financial statements under IFRS
- Experience working directly with external accountants or auditors
- Public accounting experience or a combination of public practice and industry experience
- Experience with multi-currency accounting
- Experience in transportation, logistics, technology or another transaction-intensive business
- Experience reviewing or supervising junior accounting staff
- Experience developing accounting policies, procedures and internal controls
- Exposure to budgeting,
forecasting and management reporting
What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who is technically strong but also wants to take ownership and grow into a leadership role.
The successful candidate should have:
- Strong accounting fundamentals and financial statement knowledge
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to independently investigate and resolve accounting issues
- Confidence working directly with external accountants and management
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and reporting deadlines
- Good professional judgment
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to improve existing accounting processes rather than simply follow them
- Interest in developing leadership and management responsibilities
Career Growth Freightera is continuing to develop its internal finance function.
For the right candidate, this role provides an opportunity to take progressively greater ownership of accounting, reporting, internal controls and finance operations.
Our objective is for a high-performing Senior Accountant to have the opportunity to progress into a Controller role within approximately 1–2 years. Longer term, there may also be opportunities to take on broader senior finance leadership responsibilities as the company grows.
Advancement will depend on demonstrated performance, technical capability, leadership ability and the evolving needs of the business.
Compensation The base salary range for this position is $70,000–$85,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, CPA status and the candidate’s ability to independently manage senior-level accounting responsibilities.
