Your prospect:

As a Senior Financial Officer, you will be working closely with various departments across UTM to ensure that business transactions are aligned with general accepted accounting principles and the University's financial policies. You will also be involved in complex financial analysis. You will be bring a strong understanding of accounting principles and be able to apply them to various issues.

You will also possess superior verbal and written communication skills and a high level of professionalism.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Overseeing the financial management of budgets that include strategic planning, analysis and forecasting
- Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures




- Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions
- Forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries
- Implementing plans and process improvements for financial administration activities
- Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
- Identifying and analyzing data discrepancies and taking necessary actions to correct errors
- Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements

Essential Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in accounting, finance or a related discipline, or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Accounting designation is considered an asset
- Minimum five years of relevant experience in financial management, budgeting and accounting
- Demonstrated experience with budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis, and making recommendations for budget allocations involving multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries
- Proven experience developing complex financial data modelling and analyzing complex statistical reports and/or financial information to support management decision-making




- Experience identifying and analyzing data discrepancies and taking necessary actions to correct errors to ensure data integrity and accuracy
- Experience dealing with various levels in the organization
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, including advanced formulas & functions, pivot tables, data analysis, and reporting; strong proficiency in Word and PowerPoint
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong commitment to data accuracy
- Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Assets (Nonessential):

- SAP experience an asset
- Experience in cost accounting an asset

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:

USW Pay Band 15 -- $97,348. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $124,491. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
