Summary
We are currently hiring two LRT Horticultural Technicians to support a municipal contract within Calgary’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) corridor. This position focuses on manual vegetation control, backpack herbicide application, and general grounds maintenance in and around transit infrastructure. It is a seasonal position from May-October 2026.

Responsibilities
Weed and grass trimming along LRT track and way using hand tools and mechanical trimmers
Backpack herbicide mixing and application in rock ballast and defined treatment areas
General vegetation control and site housekeeping
Litter removal and cleanup within designated transit areas
Use of blowers to clear debris following trimming activities
Compliance with all safety, environmental, and municipal requirements
Accurate completion of daily work and application records
All work is performed under the supervision of a Certified Alberta Landscape Pesticide Applicator, in accordance with provincial regulations
Required Qualifications
Minimum 18 years of age
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods (10 hour shift)
Physically capable of repetitive manual work
Strong attention to safety and detail
Willingness to follow strict procedures and documentation requirements
Preferred / Assets
Alberta Pesticide Authorized Assistant or Applicator certification is a valuable asset
Experience with backpack spraying or landscape maintenance
Familiarity with municipal or transit environments
CSTS 2020 and Standard First Aid/CPR
Groundskeeping, horticulture, or environmental background
