The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board offers a role as a Temporary Indigenous Student Counsellor for secondary students, running from September 2026 to June 2027. Help nurture Indigenous students' cultural and academic growth in this vital position. In your role as a 1.0 FTE Counsellor, you'll provide essential support and advocacy for Indigenous students, acting as a crucial link between the school and families.
Focused on facilitating a smooth transition for recent students, you will also help in developing essential life skills and ensuring emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being for students. Key Responsibilities:
Support individual Indigenous students academically
Liaise effectively with parents/guardians
Help recent Indigenous students transition successfully
Teach life skills to promote well-being
Advocate for cultural respect and empowerment Requirements:
Education in human services, preferably Indigenous Studies
Knowledge of First Nation cultures and histories
Must identify as First Nation, Métis, or Inuit
Experience in cultural counselling and SafeTALK
Excellent written and verbal communication skills Make a meaningful impact on Indigenous student lives and provide support through cultural advocacy and academic assistance at TBCDSB.
