We are seeking a Senior Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) , in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) , to join our firm on an independent contractor basis. This role focuses exclusively on business immigration , with primary specialisation in the Start-up Visa Program (SUV) and LMIA-based work permits (owner-operator LMIA, high-wage and low-wage streams relevant to business immigration, and dual-intent transitions to permanent residence).
The consultant will manage a senior caseload independently, working directly with entrepreneur and business-owner clients from strategic intake through designated-entity engagement, LMIA submission, and post-decision matters with oversight/collaboration from the firm on complex or overlapping files.
This is a flexible, remote-friendly, contractor-based position ideal for an experienced RCIC who wants to build or expand a senior business immigration practice around start-up and LMIA work without the overhead of running an independent firm.
Key Responsibilities :
Start-up Visa Program (SUV)
- Advise clients on eligibility for the Start-up Visa Program, including qualifying business assessment, essential-skills/ownership requirements, and cap-table structuring across founders
- Prepare and coordinate applications with designated entities (venture capital funds, angel investor groups, and business incubators), including commitment certificates and support letters
- Draft comprehensive business plans , letters of support documentation , ownership and voting-rights structures , and source-of-funds documentation to support SUV applications
- Advise on the work permit bridge (LMIA-exempt work permit under the SUV program) while the permanent residence application is in process
- Manage timelines across the SUV pipeline: designated-entity commitment, IRCC PR application, and any parallel temporary work permit filings
LMIA & Business Work Permits
- Prepare and file LMIA applications (including owner-operator LMIA, high-wage, and low-wage streams) in support of business-owner and key-employee work permits
- Advise on Labour Market Impact Assessment methodology: advertising requirements,
transition plans, wage assessments, and genuineness-of-job-offer evidence
- Liaise with Service Canada / ESDC on LMIA file status, requests for information, and refusals
- Prepare responses to Procedural Fairness Letters and LMIA refusal reconsideration requests
- Advise on dual intent and post-LMIA pathways to permanent residence (PNP business streams, Express Entry, or other applicable programs)
General
- Conduct client intake, eligibility assessments, and strategic case planning for senior/complex business immigration files
- Draft comprehensive net worth/source-of-funds documentation across all business-immigration file types
- Maintain accurate, organized file records and ensure compliance with the CICC Code of Professional Conduct
- Communicate directly with clients regarding timelines, document requirements, and case updates
- Collaborate with the firm's team on complex or overlapping files (e.g., where SUV or LMIA files intersect with PNP business streams, judicial review, or H&C; applications)
- Mentor or review the work of junior team members handling related business-immigration files, where applicable
Required Qualifications :
- Active RCIC license in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC)
- Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience specifically in business immigration , including a track record across:
- Start-up Visa Program applications (designated-entity coordination, business plans, commitment certificates)
- LMIA applications for business owners and key employees (owner-operator, high-wage, low-wage streams)
- Strong working knowledge of IRCC's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA)/Regulations (IRPR) and ESDC's LMIA framework as they relate to business and economic immigration
- Demonstrated experience preparing business plans, financial documentation, transition plans, and net worth statements for immigration purposes
- Experience responding to Procedural Fairness Letters and LMIA refusals/reconsiderations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable advising founders and business owners directly
- Ability to work independently, manage a senior caseload, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Own equipment (laptop, secure internet) and ability to work remotely
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct working relationships with one or more designated entities (VC funds, angel groups, incubators) under the Start-up Visa Program
- Experience with PNP entrepreneur/business streams as a complementary or fallback pathway
- Familiarity with corporate/commercial concepts relevant to business immigration (share structures, due diligence, escrow arrangements, cap tables)
- Prior experience working as a contractor/freelancer within a law firm or consultancy environment
- Experience mentoring junior RCICs or reviewing files for quality/compliance
- Bilingual (English/French) an asset
Engagement Terms
- Independent contractor relationship — consultant will invoice the firm and is responsible for their own taxes, CICC fees, and E&O; insurance
- Compensation structure: per-file fee / percentage-split / retainer (to be negotiated based on caseload, complexity, and seniority)
- Consultant retains professional responsibility for their own filings under CICC rules, while coordinating with the firm on file management and client communication protocols
- Flexible schedule; caseload volume to be mutually agreed upon
- Confidentiality and non-solicitation terms will apply per contractor agreement
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit
1. Current CICC membership/license number
