About the role The Short-Term Mine Planner is a member of the Mine Engineering team. He/She is responsible for designing and organizing the monthly and weekly production schedule to achieve production objectives and annual targets. The incumbent works in close collaboration with all technical services departments, as well as production and geology teams.
This position is part of the Short-Term Planning team, whose mandate is to develop, coordinate, and optimize short-term production plans to ensure effective and safe execution aligned with production objectives and the medium-term mine plan. This role aims to support the continuity of underground operations, maximize resource utilization, and facilitate effective communication between departments while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Essential Duties
- Establish short-term production targets (weekly and monthly) in accordance with the medium-term mine plan.
- Plan the sequencing of drilling, mucking, and backfilling activities to support the mine plan.
- Develop weekly and monthly production plans and present them to the various departments.
- Collaborate with foremen and supervisors to adjust plans based on actual field conditions.
- Optimize resource utilization and minimize operational interruptions.
- Complete zone, stope, and level approvals for the medium-term planning team.
- Conduct underground site visits to validate information contained in stope and zone planning documents.
- Develop alternative mine planning scenarios and perform economic analyses.
- Work closely with medium-term planning, production teams, technical services personnel, and operations.
- Comply with, understand, and promote company policies and regulations, particularly those related to health and safety.
- Perform all other related duties as required.
Training & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or a Diploma in Mineral Technology.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in mine planning, preferably in an underground mining environment.
- Mining Modules 1 to 5 and 7.
- Valid General Explosives Permit.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong proficiency in mine planning software; knowledge of Deswik is considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Analytical thinking, critical judgment, and creativity in problem-solving.
- Ability to adapt to a remote and multicultural work environment.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- High level of attention to detail and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Eleonore mine site (fly-in, fly-out from Montreal, Chibougamau, Matagami, Rouyn-Noranda, Val D'Or and Wemindji)
- Schedule: 14 working days followed by 14 days off
