Short-Range Mine Dewatering Engineer

Location: Fly-In/Fly-Out (FIFO)

Rotation: 14 days on / 14 days off

Planning Horizon: Weekly to 3-month

Position Overview The Short-Range Mine Dewatering Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting execution of short-range mine dewatering plans to ensure mining areas are adequately depressurized and dewatered ahead of operations.

The role works closely with Short-Range Planning (SRP), Mine Operations, Geotechnical, Hydrogeology, and Medium- and Long-Range Planning (MRP/LRP) to integrate dewatering requirements with mine sequencing, slope stability requirements, infrastructure development, and production objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Engineering & Planning

- Develop, maintain, and continuously update short-range dewatering plans covering weekly through 3-month planning horizons, aligned with SRP execution requirements and MRP/LRP strategy.
- Design and sequence dewatering systems including wellfields, horizontal drains, sumps, pipelines, pump stations, and associated infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain 3D groundwater surfaces, depressurization models, and dewatering infrastructure layouts.
- Forecast pumping requirements, groundwater drawdown, system capacity, recharge, and site water balances required to support planned mining progression.
- Integrate hydrogeological and depressurization requirements with short-range mine plans to support protected slope performance and timely access to ore and waste mining areas.
- Coordinate dewatering infrastructure installation and commissioning to ensure adequate capacity is available ahead of mining.
- Identify upcoming dewatering constraints and develop mitigation plans before they impact production or geotechnical performance.
- Interface with MRP and LRP teams to ensure short-range execution remains aligned with future pit expansion, mine phasing, infrastructure requirements, and long-term depressurization strategies.

Operations & SRP Support

- Work closely with SRP and Mine Operations to ensure weekly and monthly execution aligns with short-range dewatering plans.
- Translate dewatering requirements into clear, executable priorities for field operations.
- Provide technical guidance on pump deployment, wellfield optimization, sump management, pipeline configuration, and water routing.
- Participate in production and planning meetings, providing updates on groundwater conditions, drawdown performance, system capacity, emerging risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Conduct regular field reviews to validate system performance, well efficiency, pumping capacity, infrastructure condition, and progress against plan.
- Troubleshoot dewatering constraints affecting mine productivity, pit access, slope performance, or operational reliability.
- Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to prioritize critical dewatering infrastructure and equipment requirements.

Data, Modeling & Performance Reporting

- Analyze piezometer data, groundwater elevations, pumping rates, well performance, recharge trends, and system capacity.
- Reconcile planned versus actual pumping, groundwater drawdown, infrastructure installation, and system performance.
- Identify deviations from plan and develop corrective actions to maintain required depressurization ahead of mining.
- Maintain short-range dewatering dashboards and KPIs covering system capacity, availability, reliability, drawdown performance, and overall effectiveness.
- Provide updated dewatering assumptions and performance information to SRP, MRP, and LRP planning teams.
- Maintain accurate dewatering infrastructure, groundwater, and system performance data for integration into mine planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve pumping efficiency, energy consumption, infrastructure utilization, system reliability, and overall dewatering performance.

Key Interfaces The Short-Range Mine Dewatering Engineer will work closely with:

- Short-Range Mine Planning (SRP)
- Mine Operations
- Hydrogeology
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Mid-Range Planning (MRP)
- Long-Range Planning (LRP)
- Mine Infrastructure
- Maintenance and Reliability
- Environmental and Water Management Teams
