Bineshiinh Wazison Inc. (BWI) is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Specialized House Parent to provide consistent, trauma-informed care and supervision to children and youth living in a specialized home environment.

The Specialized House Parent plays a key role in creating a safe, structured, nurturing, and home-like environment while supporting each youth’s individual needs, routines, relationships, culture, education, and overall well-being.

Schedule

This position works an extended rotational schedule, with applicants able to choose between:

5 days on / 2 days off, or

10 days on / 4 days off

During scheduled rotations, the House Parent is responsible for maintaining consistency and continuity within the home and supporting the day-to-day needs of the children and youth in care.

Key Responsibilities

Provide consistent care, supervision, guidance, and emotional support to children and youth.

Maintain a safe, stable, respectful, and welcoming home environment.

Establish and maintain predictable daily routines and expectations.

Support youth with personal hygiene, meals, household routines, recreation, appointments, school attendance, and community activities.

Implement individualized care plans, behavioural support strategies, safety plans, and de-escalation approaches.

Use trauma-informed, relationship-based and culturally respectful practices.

Recognize triggers and early signs of escalation and respond using approved de-escalation strategies.

Support youth with behavioural, emotional, developmental, cognitive, medical, or other specialized needs.

Encourage independence, life skills, healthy relationships, and age-appropriate responsibilities.

Support connections with family, culture, community, and other important relationships as identified in the youth’s care plan.

Coordinate and communicate effectively with Specialized Support Workers,



House Managers, caseworkers, schools, healthcare professionals, families, and the BWI management team.

Maintain accurate daily documentation, medication records, incident reports, appointment information, and other required records.

Ensure medications are administered and documented according to established procedures and individual care plans.

Maintain household organization, cleanliness, groceries, supplies, and basic household needs.

Transport and accompany youth to school, appointments, family visits, recreational activities, and community programming when required.

Participate in staff meetings, training, case planning, and ongoing professional development.

Follow all BWI policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, safety standards, and applicable child-welfare requirements.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in:

Child and youth care

Foster care or residential care

Child welfare

Disability or developmental services

Mental health or behavioural support

Autism support

Trauma-informed care

Crisis intervention and de-escalation

Relevant education in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Disability and Community Support, Education, Healthcare, Indigenous Studies, or a related human-services field is considered an asset.

Equivalent combinations of education, lived experience, and relevant professional experience will also be considered.

Requirements

Successful applicants must be willing and able to:

Work the selected extended rotational schedule.





Provide consistent and dependable supervision throughout their scheduled rotation.

Complete required criminal record, vulnerable sector, child abuse registry, and adult abuse registry checks.

Maintain valid First Aid/CPR certification or obtain certification as required.

Complete BWI-required training, including trauma-informed care, de-escalation and crisis-prevention training.

Maintain professional boundaries and strict confidentiality.

Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary care team.

Respond calmly and professionally to challenging or high-stress situations.

Hold a valid driver’s licence and meet BWI transportation requirements where driving is required.

What We Are Looking For The ideal House Parent is someone who is patient, reliable, emotionally regulated, organized, compassionate, and able to provide firm but supportive boundaries.

This position requires someone who understands that behaviour is communication and who can remain consistent during difficult moments while continuing to build trusting relationships with children and youth.
