About Us
ALANTRA LEASING INC, is a family-owned company based in Sussex, NB. Since 1981, we’ve been providing contractors and businesses across Eastern Canada with high-quality modular and panelized building solutions. We pride ourselves on finding solutions for our customers’ unique needs. With distribution and maintenance centers throughout NB, NS, PEI, Quebec, Ontario, and Newfoundland and Labrador, we’re growing, and we want you to grow with us.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-driven Structural Engineer to join our team in Sussex, NB, where engineering goes beyond the desk. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you’ll play an important role in connecting engineering, manufacturing, and construction to bring projects to life.
You’ll have the opportunity to be involved throughout the entire design, build project journey – from initial planning and developing structural solutions, to working with our Carpenters and teams in our shops, to seeing your designs come to life on the construction site.
Our projects are diverse, from modular and panelized buildings to multi-storey structures, giving you the opportunity to solve interesting problems and develop practical solutions that meet our customers’ needs. If you’re looking for a role where you can design, collaborate, get hands-on, and actually see the results of your work, this could be the opportunity for you.
What You’ll Do
As a Structural Engineer, you’ll be involved in a wide range of projects and will have the opportunity to see your work move from concept to design to construction. You’ll work closely with teams across the business to develop practical, buildable solutions while maintaining a high standard of engineering quality.
- Develop structural designs in compliance with the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC),
using specialized engineering software to complete and review structural calculations.
- Prepare and review drawings, specifications, technical reports, and construction documents—ensuring they accurately reflect design intent and can be effectively manufactured and built.
- Work closely with sales, manufacturing, and project management teams to provide preliminary design guidance, value-engineered solutions, and support for sales and permit drawings.
- Conduct structural inspections and assessments both in-plant and on-site, and helping solve technical challenges as they arise.
- Support clients throughout the project lifecycle, building robust relationships and providing engineering expertise from initial concept through construction.
- Identify risks, develop innovative solutions, and look for opportunities to improve engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Ensure designs and projects meet company standards, quality expectations, and industry best practices—with a focus on safety, constructability, and getting it right.
What You Bring
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline. A master’s degree is considered an asset.
- A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and at least 5 years of relevant structural engineering experience, preferably within the construction or manufacturing sectors.
- Experience across the full range of structural design activities, including preliminary and detailed design, drawings, reports, contract documents,
and tendering.
- Strong knowledge of applicable structural engineering codes and standards, including the National Building Code of Canada.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and structural analysis/design software, along with Microsoft Office would be considered an asset.
- Strong technical report and specification writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively.
- The ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at different stages while working independently and collaborating effectively with others.
- You’re practical, curious, and solutions-focused, with an interest in understanding not just what to design, but how it will actually be built.
