Duties to commence September 2, 2026
This position is a part-time position with the potencial to increase as the program grows.

The Anishnabemowin - Ojibway Language Instructor supports the Anishnabemowin program for students and the school community. Due to our unique geography and community needs, this program will serve to support students in grades 3 to 8, high school students and community members.

Duties and responsibilities

Provide engaging Anishnabemowin language instruction to elementary students in small groups.

Develop and deliver age-appropriate lesson plans that integrate cultural knowledge, stories, songs, and traditions.

Collaborate with Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT) to support student learning and align language activities with classroom contexts.

Adapt lessons to meet varying levels of language knowledge and student needs.

Promote Anishnabemowin language and culture as a living, vibrant part of school life.

Maintain a respectful and supportive learning environment that honours Indigenous ways of knowing and learning.

Participate in planning discussions with the school principal and staff regarding scheduling and program implementation.

Communicate with parents/guardians and community partners as appropriate to encourage cultural connections and student engagement.

Education/Qualifications

Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent

Recognized by Band Elders/Community as possessing sufficient knowledge and proficiency in Anishnabemowin - Ojibway to teach.





Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with educators, students, and families.

Understanding of Anishnabek and Anishnabemowin. .

Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Experience working with children or youth in educational or cultural settings. (Preferred)

Ability to work effectively and co-operatively with students, staff and public.

Ability to work independently and with confidentiality.

Effective interpersonal skills.

Familiarity with Indigenous worldviews, cultures and traditions, and a commitment to incorporating these perspectives into communication and collaboration practices.

Robust communication skills, with the ability to work respectfully with students, families, and educators while maintaining confidentiality.

Ability to contribute constructively to a team and adapt communication approaches to meet diverse cultural needs.

Proven ability to demonstrate a lived understanding of the First Nation, Métis and Inuit traditions, culture and community connections

Genuine and lived knowledge and understanding of the Anishnaabe way of life, the Seven Grandfather Teachings and the willingness to learn;

Familiarity with Saugeen First Nation, and Nawash Unceded First Nation history; communities and members

Excellent written and oral communication;

Organized and able to manage competing demands; and,

Experience in educational settings, especially with Indigenous students (preferred).

The Anishnabemowin - Ojibway Language Instructorwill receive reimbursement for mileage as per the Board's Policy when required to travel.
