Centrally located in Edmonton’s downtown core, the RAH serves a diverse community, including some of our province’s most vulnerable and marginalized population. PCU 33 is a 31-bed unit providing care to neurosurgery, Ortho spine and trauma surgical patients. PCU 33 also features 6 surgical observation beds that include extra training for registered nurses on the unit. Patients are received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care units, and directly from home and/or medical clinics.A Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures. We have modified nursing care on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and health care aides working cohesively within the collaborative model of care. LPNs work independently and under the direction of a Charge RN. LPNs are expected to direct and monitor the care provided by health care aids. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line; supporting and maintaining high-quality patient care strategies within the surgery program. Position requires candidates to perform moderate to heavy work on a regular basis in order to ensure safe patient care and safety of unit staff.
