Position Information
We are seeking a ResearchTechnicianII, under general supervision, will providetechnical support forbreeding andresearch workto theprofessional staff. The technician will evaluate, select,andapplystandard and advanced scientific techniques used inthefield, greenhouse, and laboratory functions.Work performedby the technician will beevaluated based on the successful completion of tasks assigned.

Responsibilities:

Conducts seedand landpreparation and planting of researchtrialsand breeding nurseries in the field and greenhouse, manages thecrop growth throughoutthe season(e.g.,irrigation, fertilization, and pesticide application), and harvests for yield orplantsamples.





Collects samples and measuresdata fromresearchtrialsand breeding nurseries.Collects and summarizes crop management information of research trials and breeding nurseries.

Conductsand recordsyield and quality(using grain analyzers)measurements.Compilesthedatausing Exceland Word.

Assists in making crosses for the development of current breeding populations.

Operatesand maintains the functionality offield(e.g., tractors, planters,combine harvester,threshers,and backhoe) andlab technicalequipment(e.g., rice dehullers, mills, and whiteness and moisture meters).

Plants,harvestand takes datainoff station yield trials.

Trainsand assignstasks as necessary to student workers and co-workers under his supervision

Travelsto Puerto Ricoforharvesting plant materials.

Assists staff members in conducting major field experiments and consults in developing procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Three years of related experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform responsibilities listed above, such asgrowing, managing,



and harvesting riceand samplesinfieldand greenhousenurseriesorexperiments; data measurement and compilation; and operatingand maintainingfield and lab equipment.

Ability tomultitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience

Salary: Compensation for this position is commensurate based on the selected candidate’s qualifications. This is an hourly paid position.
