Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Insurance Defence Associate with approximately 4-7 years of relevant litigation experience to join its team.
This is a fantastic chance for a lawyer who has developed a strong foundation in insurance defence litigation and is looking to continue building a sophisticated practice in a collaborative firm environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a range of complex insurance defence matters, with a particular focus on professional liability claims . Depending on the candidate’s experience and interests, there may also be an opportunity to work on professional regulatory matters .
The associate will have meaningful responsibility for files and will work closely with experienced counsel on matters at various stages of the litigation process.
Responsibilities may include:
Managing and assisting with professional liability and other insurance defence files;
Drafting pleadings, motions, mediation materials, legal opinions and other litigation documents;
Conducting examinations for discovery, mediations and motions;
Developing litigation strategy and providing practical, responsive advice to clients;
Working with insurers, insured professionals, experts and other stakeholders;
Assisting with hearings, trials and other contested proceedings; and
Potentially working on professional regulatory and disciplinary matters.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
Approximately 4-7 years of post-call litigation experience ;
Experience in insurance defence litigation , with professional liability experience considered a strong asset;
Strong written and oral advocacy skills;
Sound judgment and the ability to independently manage files and competing priorities;
Excellent analytical, organizational and client-service skills; and
An interest in continuing to develop expertise in professional liability litigation and, potentially, professional regulation.
This opportunity would suit a lawyer who enjoys substantive litigation work, is comfortable taking ownership of files and is looking to further develop their advocacy skills alongside experienced litigators.
