Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and continuous-improvement-focused Controller to ensure the integrity of Rennaï’s accounting operations and financial information. The Controller will lead and actively participate in day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of financial records and the timely execution of accounting activities. This role combines strategic financial oversight with hands‑on responsibility for financial close, journal entries, account reconciliations, reporting, internal controls, inventory accounting, cost management, budgeting, and performance analysis.

Reporting to the COO, this individual will partner closely with Merchandising, Procurement, Store Operations, Logistics, and other department leaders to support profitable growth, operational discipline, and sound business decisions.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Close & Reporting

Lead and actively participate in month-end and year-end financial close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality financial information

Prepare and review financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements

Oversee journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting financial schedules

Analyze financial results, trends, and variances and clearly communicate key findings and recommendations to management

Maintain a disciplined close calendar and continuously improve process efficiency, documentation, and reporting quality

Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules as required to support an accurate and timely close

Perform and oversee balance sheet reconciliations and investigate unusual transactions or variances

Actively participate in monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting activities,



ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial records

Accounting Operations & Internal Controls

Oversee and participate in general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory accounting, tax filings, banking activities, credit card processing, gift card accounting, and cash management.

Support the accounting team in resolving day-to-day operational accounting issues and month-end requirements

Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, financial procedures, and internal controls designed to safeguard company assets

Ensure compliance with applicable accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and internal policies

Coordinate with external auditors and prepare the documentation required for the successful completion of audits

Identify and implement improvements to accounting workflows, automation, documentation, and ERP utilization

Ensure accurate reconciliation and control of POS, e-commerce, payment platforms, and related financial systems.

Inventory, Cost & Profitability Management

Oversee and participate in inventory accounting, including valuation, reserves, adjustments, inventory variances, and reconciliations between financial and operational systems

Monitor and analyze cost of goods sold, gross margins, expenses, inventory levels, and key cost drivers

Implement and maintain cost-accounting methodologies appropriate for a retail environment

Identify cost-reduction opportunities and recommend actions to improve operating efficiency and profitability

Partner with Merchandising, Procurement, Store Operations, and Logistics to improve cost accuracy, inventory management, pricing, and margin strategies

Maintain financial oversight of lease accounting, occupancy costs, and real estate-related financial obligations.

Financial Planning, Analysis & Business Support

Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to assess financial impacts of inventory flow, logistics, procurement, and other supply chain initiatives.

Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes with the Senior Director, Finance, Risk & Technology, and department leaders

Prepare budget and forecast variance analysis and provide actionable recommendations to improve performance





Track key performance indicators, including sales, margins, expenses, inventory turnover, cash flow, and profitability by channel or category

Perform financial modelling, scenario analysis, and business-case analysis for new initiatives, investments, and expansion projects

Provide reliable and actionable financial insights to support strategic and operational decision-making

Team Leadership & Collaboration

Lead, coach, and develop the Finance team while actively participating in critical accounting activities and supporting operational execution during peak periods and month-end close cycles. The Controller serves as both a people leader and a hands‑on accounting professional who ensures the quality and accuracy of the department's work.

Ensure effective allocation of responsibilities, training, succession planning, and operational continuity across the Finance function.

Act as a finance business partner to cross-functional teams, including Payroll, Operations, Supply Chain, and Real Estate.

Oversee and participate in the continuous improvement of business systems, reporting tools, and BI processes to support data integrity, operational efficiency, and decision-making.

First 90 Days Goals
First 30 Days

Become proficient with Rennaï’s ERP, reporting tools, close calendar, accounting policies, and retail operating model

Build strong relationships with the Finance team and key cross-functional stakeholders

First 60 Days

Take ownership of the monthly close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and key control activities

Assess inventory accounting, reporting processes, and control gaps and prioritize practical improvements

First 90 Days

Deliver a reliable and timely financial close with clear management reporting and variance analysis

Implement initial process and control improvements and establish a roadmap for further automation and scalability

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a CPA designation is considered a strong asset

Progressive accounting and financial-control experience, including financial close and statements; retail, consumer goods, inventory-based, or high-volume experience is preferred

Strong knowledge of internal controls, inventory and cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

Experience supervising, coaching, or developing an accounting team

Advanced Excel and ERP skills (LS Retail is an asset), solid analytical and bilingual communication abilities, and a high level of integrity, judgment, and discretion.
