High School Humanities and Law Teacher [⅔ Mat Leave Position]

Starting Date: October, 2026 to August 2027

About the position:

We are looking for a dedicated, energetic, compassionate, innovative, and inspiring humanities and law teacher to join our school family. A person with integrity, the successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with staff and students to make a difference in the lives of others. King David is a young and growing school with approximately 275 students and 50 staff members. We are looking for an educator who will thrive in a relational setting and will support and implement a competency-based approach to teaching while caring for and supporting students’ emotional well-being and development. The specific courses and teaching schedule will be determined depending on the successful candidate’s skills.

The successful candidate will have a love of social studies and law and a joy for teaching adolescents. We are looking for candidates who truly want to use their passion to make a difference in the lives of our students. You must value diversity as it relates to all people, including aspects of identity, and have respect for indigenous traditions and ways of knowing. Requirements for the position:

Be certified to teach in British Columbia with a university degree in this teaching discipline





Demonstrated humanities teaching experience, with the ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment for students

A desire to always improve one’s teaching practice and the learning experience for students

A desire to be involved in the extra-curricular life of the school

Post-secondary qualification in humanities, law, or a related discipline.

Experience with, and knowledge of, First Peoples Principles of Learning

Experience designing learning and assessment using a backward design approach (Understanding by Design), with attention to clear learning goals, authentic assessment, and ongoing feedback.

Experience guiding students to analyze and interpret literature and media with attention to diverse perspectives and meaningful connections to their lives.

Skill in designing purposeful assessments that promote learning, reflection, and growth in reading, writing, and oral communication.

A commitment to fostering a positive, supportive, inclusive, and encouraging environment that nurtures students’ confidence, well-being, and lifelong engagement in physical activity.
