Role Description The Transport Accounting role is a full-time, on-site position based in Georgetown, ON. The individual in this role will handle day-to-day accounting activities related to the transport division, including processing invoices, verifying freight charges, reconciling driver and vendor payments, and monitoring fuel, toll, and maintenance expenses.
Responsibilities include maintaining accurate ledgers, preparing regular financial reports, supporting month-end and year-end closing, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and relevant accounting standards.
The role also involves coordinating with operations and dispatch teams to resolve billing discrepancies, updating customer and carrier accounts, and assisting with budgeting and cost analysis for transport operations. The successful candidate will contribute to improving financial processes, supporting audits, and providing timely information to management for decision-making.
Qualifications
- Strong accounting and bookkeeping skills, including experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems; solid skills in spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) for data analysis and reporting.
- Knowledge of transport or logistics accounting (e.g., freight billing, fuel and maintenance cost tracking, mileage and load-based costing) is highly beneficial.
- Ability to interpret financial data, prepare reports, and support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a quick-paced environment.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with operations, dispatch, vendors, and management.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional accounting designation in progress or completed is an asset.
- Familiarity with Canadian taxation and regulatory requirements related to transportation and commercial operations is an advantage.
